Training Jack Russells

Do Jack Russell Terriers come in different sizes?

People always comment that my Jack Russell, Beauxregard, seems larger than others.

I think there are 3 types of JRTs: the Parson JRT, the long-legged and the short legged JRT.

different blood lines there is only one size of jack russel terrior, but if you have a dog that comes from a big family and was breed to be big you are going to have a bigger then normal dog

Here is part of their description from the written standard:

A sturdy, tough terrier, very much on its toes all the time, measuring between 10" and 15" at the withers. The body length must be in proportion to the height, and it should present a compact, balanced image, always being in solid, hard condition.

So, in answer to your question, yes, they can vary by 5" in height. They also come in different coats.

There is only one size in the breed standard. But in many breeds, there are individuals that are larger than the standard. It is considered a fault, so they shouldn't be bred and aren't show quality, but that doesn't make him any less of a great pet dog.

BTW, AKC calls them Parson Russell terriers, but it's the same breed.

the pure bred jack russell SHOULD come close to the breed standard: A sturdy, tough terrier, very much on its toes all the time, measuring between 10" and 15" at the withers. The body length must be in proportion to the height, and it should present a compact, balanced image, always being in solid, hard condition - should be 51%or more WHITE.

as for variations,, poorly bred dogs by backyard breeders/puppymills many times do not look like they are supposed to…. measure your dog withers=top off shoulders
