A female will have her first heat at about 6 months. The male is probably able & ready to breed at about the same age.
Small dogs can be neutered before they are 6 months - you want to spay the female before the first heat and castrate the male before testocerone takes over his life.
Early neutering cuts down their risk of cancer later.

Anywhere between 6-8 months. I was told by my vet that my JRT mix could go into her first heat when she was as young as 6 months old. If have a female and you're planning to have her spayed, it should be done when she is about 6 months old so that she doesn't experience her first heat cycle.
