I have been asked if I could rehome a jack russell puppy it's crossed with a springer spaniel but I have a cat do they get on genarally with cats
If this is a puppy, then it could be integrated with cats, my grandmother has a purebred jack russell, and it gets on really well with my cousins cat (my cousin lives just along the street and the cat goes to my gran's during the day). They even play with each other, which i thought would never happen between the two species.
Her parents, on the other hand, are working dogs at my mum's friend's stable yard and would attack and kill a cat without hesitation.
So basically, there is no definite yes or no. If it is a young puppy, then go for it, but if it is a bit older, then it may be best to let it go to another home, as both jack russels and spanels have ahunting instinct , so a cat may not be the best companion for this dog.
Add: RACHEL, it looks like me and you are in the same boat. Probably the two most informative answers given to this question, and yet we both have two thumbs down as i write this. I think that morons see the orange label and give us a thumbs down just to try and get some sort of thrill and make themselves look better! Really irritating!

Terriers and cats can be a tough combo. They tend to be highly prey driven and see the cat as a self propelled squeek toy. Of course, levels vary, so it depends on the individual dog. Ask for the dog to be evaluated and prey drive assessed before taking it into your home.

My JRT gets along fine with my cat. My circumstances are probably different than yours though. My cat is 13 years old and has been around dogs her whole life so she's used to them. My JRT is curious about her of course as all dogs are but she doesn't chase her down or anything. Not all dogs are the same though. Your cat will most likely just stay clear of the pup.

Just like any other dog, as long as they are raised with them.

They can have more difficulties than other dogs, as they have the 'terrier' predatory instinct, and could REALLY annoy your cat at first unless she is very patient.
If you are careful to establish early on that the cat is 'boss', not your new puppy, they should get along ok. When you get the dog, don't directly introduce them keep them apart at first and get them used to eachothers' smells. Then let your cat reprimand puppy if it is too playful/aggressive.

i have a 2 year old jack Russell. we have had him since he was 11 weeks old. we have always had the cat in the house when he is there. he has never attacked, growled or done anything remotely violent towards her. they run around together and play chase but don't fight. Jack Russell's are often told to be violent or viscous but it is completely the opposite. they are beautiful, kind gentle and loving who will bond to anyone or anything.
p.s i recommend a parsons jack Russell (even less likely to be violent) they are also beautiful. search parsons jack Russell's on http://www.google.co.uk
hope this helped

It depends on the individual dog. If it's raised or has lived with cats happily before then yes.

JRT x Springer get on with cats? Well it will probably get on fine with chasing them!
I personally have nothing against crossbreeds (unless someone wants to call them a rare designer breed and charge hundreds of pounds for them) but this is a far from ideal mix at any time i would have thought.

That's quite a cross! Jack Russells are strange dogs - they can be very unpredictable and I've known ones which will snap and bite without a moments thought. Springers are exactly that! Jack Russell I had was a right bully and hated cats!
