Got a male lab and want a male jack russell.. got two children ages 11 and 14.. will a jack russell suit this family? thanks x
Jrts won't put up with tail pulling and ear pulling or any of that sort. It isn't a matter of whether the Jrt is good with children. It's "Do the children know how to treat a dog?"
My little sister is only 7, she has her own Jrt who she takes to shows with me. She knows how to treat a dog though.
Jrts can be dog aggressive. If you currently have a male lab, then I suggest you get a female Jrt. Getting two dogs of the same gender will often result in fights over dominance. It'sstill possible, but much less likely since they won't be fighting over "alpha female" or "Alpha male" since there'd be only 1 female and only 1 male.
One of my female Jrts, Suzy, gets along great with my male dogs. She doesn't, however, get along with most of our females. Other than our little mix, Kimmie.. who submitts to her and clearly knows Suzy is the alpha.
Spaying and neutering can solve dominance problems sometimes, but not always.

Jack russells do best with dogs of the opposite sex (regardless of spay/neuter)
Males have a better chance at getting along with another male dog, than two females getting along, but you are going to have your hands full. Please read up on the breed before you make any decision to see if this dog breed will best suit your lifestyle and training methods.
The children need to be taught to not be forceful with the JRT.

The JRT will be OK with both dog and kids, but understand they are EXTREMELY high energy. Every one I have come in contact with has been a bounce-off-the-walls mess. Be sure you or the kids will be giving it many hours of exercise every day.
Spend a few hours around a hyper Jack Russel puppy to be sure you could stand it.

I bought Jack Russell's two when they were just puppies. A female and male they are brother and sister. I also have two children. I agree that females are more aggressive she does not like children or other dogs. Our male is much more friendly and is great with other dogs. Also the female one bites but not often

Yes… But Jack Russels have a big tendency to get into fights with other dogs, specially males, because they are quick and nervous dogs - not all. My Grandpa had a Jack Russel called Mouse and he was the sweetest thing! Still terriers are bond do get into rolls with other dogs and your children must learn how to care of him well because he has a big tendency to nip and bite! They have other problems such as a high-energy and sometimes they are too "barkable" and easilly excited.
