Training Jack Russells

new puppy jack russel?

my son got a little jack russel puppy for his birthday and he wont go to the bathroom outside he will wait until he gets back in the house , a friend of mine said to try puppy pads
is that a good idea ?

Take the dog outside every hour on the hour to the spot you want him to go. When he does go in that spot, reward him PROFUSELY both physically and verbally. Puppy pads are okay, but it's a pain - you'll have to teach him to go outside eventually anyways. Personally I think they just confuse the dog - is it okay to go inside or not? The main thing is to keep bringing him outside whether you think he needs to go or not until it's ingrained in his head that's what he's supposed to do.

No, it's not a good idea, not if you ever want the dog to go outside.

If he goes right when het gets back in, stay outside longer. Period. He WILL GO eventually, then praise like he just made you a million dollars. He'll figure it out.

    Do you use a crate?

No, they still teach him to go in the house!

What you need to do is take him outside on a lead and just stay out there will him until he performs, even if you have to wait an hour with him. Don't let him get away with going inside. He needs to know that outside is his toilet and pooing/peeing inside is just not acceptable.

Take him out when you know he might need to go like after a nap or eating. Praise him and give him a small doggy titbit whenever he does go outside. If you do see him squatting to go inside, scold him and then take him outside.

    Put plenty of newspaper down.

Move the puppy onto the paper when he starts to do anything.

Eventually he should go on the paper
Then gradually move the paper to the back door (or exit).

Until you can move it outside.

You will need to be patient .Dont scold. Just praise when he is good.

Meantimes stay outside as long as you can and play with him when you can.

Say effusive 'good boy's to him when he does his business and wees outside.

no , its not a good idea
becuase your just teacher your dog to poop indoors and i don't think
you would want to teach your puppy that becuase it will grow on it..
so waht i would recommend is get a newspaper and put it ontop of where it pooped or peed and get that scent on it..and put i outside and it will naturally just go outside and poop there.. what happens here is that when it pees or poops it leaves a mark so if you put its mark outside it would probably go there…
I HOPE THIS HELPS AND GOOD LUCK!
