My Jack Russell Jag is 2 years old. I would love to rescue an italian greyhound in the next few months. I've done all of my research and I thought I would ask you guys to see if any of you had experiences or have heard of good stories of these two breeds living together.
Thanks!
my jack russell is very well trained and has never ever destroyed anything in my house nor would ever bite ANYONE.
please don't judge because of the stories you've heard. every jack russell is different.
thanks for everyone's opinions. my dog is very well behaved and i'm very lucky he's not a typical jack russell. he's very friendly and very independent.
I have a Jack too and she's 3 now. I rescued her from a bad situation. She's come a long way. This was a dog that never knew what it was like to go outside. Believe it or not, now I'm dog sitting a cocker spaniel for 10 days and they're getting along just fine. She's usually great with small, medium, and gentle larger dogs. It's the big dogs that are too rough and bully small dogs that she doesn't get along with.
You sound like you've done an excellent job keeping your jack trained, exercised, and entertained. I recommend getting a female so there's less chances of minor fights. If your jrt is anything like mine, where he's even a little dominant with dogs in his home then I recommend picking out a submissive new dog and introduce them in a slow, neutral, controlled environment. It's best to have them meet outside of your home first. Good luck!
Jack's are great dogs. It's the people that create them into monsters because they have no clue on how to be leaders of the pack. Keep up the good work!

Jack Russell's have a reptuation of being untrustworthy when left alone with another housemate. Some have even been reported to have killed one another. Depending on your particular pup's temperment, I would be careful introducing a new pup to your home. It may be just fine, but be careful.
It would be a good idea to network with a Jack Russell group, or breeder for their opinion as well.
Italian Greyhounds are very thin skinned dogs, and are very much house dogs, vs. a Jack Russell that are often high energy and attention demanding. Both are small, and that may be the most they have in common in general. I would focus on matching personalities over breed. Although you may be able to find a IG that can blend easily, you may need to try a few out for a week to see how things go.
Lastly, I would not leave them unattended together until you have a good idea of how they are together. If you have to moderate them, it would be best to keep them seperated when alone.

Jack Russell Terriers are TERRible with other dogs. I recommend you don't get another dog, unless you want either a hurt, permanently damaged, or dead Italian Greyhound. Take your dog to a couple of training classes to see how he reacts to others before you make the mistake of buying on impulse. If he's good with other dogs, continue the classes and after a while, introduce the new Greyhound to the family. However, if he's not, try not to be selfish (as most people are) and don't get the Italian Greyhound.

I had a little Iggy here as a foster for a short while.. they are nice little dogs.. very needy and clingy. I dont have a JRT.. but I did take him to my parent's during their annual cook-out.. and my Aunt and Uncle brought their JRT.. the dogs all got along that day. (We had a standard poodle, 2 chinese cresteds, the JRT, a mixed breed of unknown ancestry, and the Iggy all there together)
If both dogs are well-socialized with other dogs, they should get along just fine.

My friend has rescued two Italian Greyhounds, and two Greyhounds. They are pretty high strung dogs, but you have a Jack Russell so Im sure your used to that. The two breeds will do great together because they both have similar hyper levels and exercise requirements. Thanks for rescuing! Good Luck!
