Training Jack Russells

What is the best thing to feed Jack Russel's from puppy to adult?

Just got a Jack Russell puppy could you give me ideas of what to feed him, how much and when? Is it true they enjoy raw chicken wings?
Thanks Meg, could I ask how often you walk your dog and for how long?

I feed my Jack Russell "Innova". It is a little more expensive than other foods but well worth it. ….it has all natural ingredients. You could start on the puppy and then switch to adult once he is older. My dog does really well on it.

A puppy should eat about three times a day. I fed my pup around 7am, noon, and 5pm. But as long as you are consistent, you can work it around your schedule!!! When they are around 1yr old, you can switch to adult food and after about 6 months or so…you can gradually start feeding them twice a day.

A nice thing about Innova is that they also tell you what quantity you should give your dog based on 1. Weight and also 2. Activity Level.

Dogs can eat raw foods….but certain cooked bones are not good because they can splinter. There are other bones they can have

Good luck with your puppy…..they are crazy but such fun dogs. I'm actually getting another Jack Russell puppy next week!!!

DONT feed a puppy raw meat it will give him bad tummy and even damage his teeth. use puppy food and fed him 3 times a day but only medium amounts as he is a puppy he needs food to grow. use different foods to see which he likes.

It really depends on the dog and their digestive system. Good food would contain the right protein level (about 26%), good amount of meat, no grains (Wheat, soy, corn), and is holistic. I reccommend Canidae or Innova. They are both high-quality dog food, and even though they cost a bit extra than your ordinary Purina, they are so much better. It had been proven that dog foods containing fillers can cause health problems, including obesity as the main. You will need to look on the chart and feed according to your dog's age and weight. It will vary, but you will start off feeding a young puppy 3-4 times a day, and then gradually limit it to twice. Split the serving up (you're not feeding it the ammount on the bag x3, 4,or 2, you're taking that whole serving and splitting it). Once in the morning, twice in the afternoon, and once at night at first. Then make it once in the morning, once in the afternoon, once at night, then obviously once in the morning and once at night.

It is true that they like raw chiken wings, but I'm not a fan of chicken bones in general, because they have a tendency to be very small (especially in the wings!) and splinter easily. So I don't reccommend you doing that, especially with such a small dog. Try meaty bones like soup bones or marrow bones. You can find them at the grocery store!
