Training Jack Russells

pug having breathing difficulties?

My pug/jack-russell sometimes makes a sound like a pig that is 10x over weight. It seems to me that she is having trouble breathing but due to her being a cross breed her nose is not as flat as a pure pug, her face is the same look and shape as a boxer. Also her nose isnt closed up at all or got any presure on it.It happens when she is breathing in and out but not everyday.
1 year old and her weight is normal

i find it hard to give advise to people when i can't actually hear the sound so i would say it would be the best to go to the vet and just get her checked. i mean it can't harm her. if it's something physical you may be able to alter it to help her breath better but if it's only once in a while and the doc says yeh she'll be ok you can breath again!
i would say let the vet see her and see what he says
good luck!!

Short-faced dogs, like pugs, can have an elongated soft palate that hampers their breathing. It can be surgically corrected. You'll need a consultation with a good veterinarian to determine if this is the problem.

    Ask your veterinarian.

So much can cause noise while breathing. Excess weight can cause it; allergies; growths in sinuses or throat; spasms; birth defects; normal pug noises; stress. Rather than guess and end up wrong at her expense, ask your veterinarian.

your dog is called bracycephalic.it means she has quite a shorter airway than other dogs. what you are hearing sounds perfectly normal, but if you think she sounds like this more frequently or for longer periods etc.or goes off her food, then obviously she needs to see the vet. with bracycephalic dogs you sometimes see a bluish tinge around their mucus membranes when they've been running a lot, she may also 'snot'up a load of thick slobber as well. this is usually ok too. she sounds to be normal for her breed, but phone the vet if you think this may be something more.. cute breed of dog though aren't they.

Best to have him checked by a vet. And start a diet plan.

Does it sound like a snorting sound? Mine does it as well, mix between a Pug and a Boston Terrier. The Boston Terrier does that as well. It is their air way (I am thinking that) for me it is a noise that they make I never thought something about it. It is the best if you ask your vet about this. I will ask my vet about this as well. Hope it is nothing to serious for the dogs. Good luck

OK I have 2 english bulldogs and they have a lot of the same chararistics except they are a little bigger but anyway….a lot of these kind of dogs have heart problems and it isn't something to get fixed or anything it is just what the breed has don't be worried I would put that dog on a diet and it doesn't matter if it is not as flat nosed it still is from the nose and from being overweight I mean that is dangerous to have that type of dog and it be overweight but don't worry I don't want you to worry cut it back on table scraps and not as much dog food now the pig noise lol that is so normal my dogs do it all the time it is hilarious don't worry about the sounds….it just helps them breath better.

My mother in law breedes bull dogs, which I know is not a pug mix but a commen problem with both breads is a palet problem which affects the dogs breathing in so there not getting all the air. The palit is the flap in the back of the throut. I would take him to the vet.
