Terriers (especially Jack's) have a lot of energy…more like see the hyperactive doggie! So, do you have the energy for a dog like that? Pugs are more mellow but they have problems sometimes with their breathing (because of that smashed little nose).

Actually, Puggles are very tame and extremly cute. Puggles are a cross between beagles and pugs

They're all great. The Jack Russell is going to need A LOT of exercise and attention. By A LOT, I mean at least an hour of hard play twice a day. Otherwise, say goodbye to your yard, your shoes, and your furniture. They are extremely energetic dogs. Very, very smart, and very sweet, but they are little fireballs. The other two are a bit calmer, but because they have smushed faces, you need to be careful with them in the heat. They do not ventilate well, so you can't leave them outside in summer, and long walks are not a good idea.
They're all nice dogs and loyal pets. You'll be happy with any of them, so long as you read up on the breed and take what you read seriously.
Good luck.

My mother has two boston terriers and you can definiately say they are really hyper. You walk in the door and they jump up almost chest high to you. They both have definite personalities too. One is playful and likes people. The other is curious and is the alpha dog of the two, they are fun to play with.
My great-grandmother used to have a Jack Russel. He was very intelligent, and was able to learn a trick (fetch) over the course of my one week visit last month.
I do not know anyone with a Pug but I have seen them in pet stores and they look just as hyper as a Jack Russel or Boston Terrier.
So from my experience I would say go for a Boston Terrier, they are loving, and fun to have around.

all 3 of those breeds are high strung. You will be on the go with the terriers and pugs have a tendency to get fat and have heart conditions etc. as a result. Do more research before getting any of them

I would suggest you read about each specific breed before you decide, I have a Jack Russell and they are very active and need a lot of attention and excercise. I also have a Rat Terrier which is basically the same work, but I got him because I thought she would do better with a companion which she does. Boston Terriers are a little less active. I don't know much about pugs, but the internet has great rescources for learning about breeds.

How long have you been thinking about these dogs? This can be considered a compulsion or obsession. My suggestion is to go to bed and start dreaming about horses, maybe you will stop thinking about dogs.

As others have mentioned, terriers in general are high-energy, while Pugs tend to be a little more mellow. However, my advice to you is that whichever breed you choose, DON'T go out and buy one. Check local shelters and breed-specific rescues for the dog you want. There are too many wonderful homeless pets out there to justify paying money for one.

I have pugs. my wife and i chose pugs for many reasons. just to name a few…….
they are the largest of the toy breeds, they rank in the top five for being family, and animal friendly. They are known to be very comical and are also in the top five for intelligence. we have a boy and a girl, and infact we are selling off the second litter as we speak. Whatever choice you make, just research it on the net…when choosing a pet it is very important to matching one with your personality.

I had a boston who passed away. Absolutely the best breed in the workd ( only complaint is a little gas problem! ) I also have a pug. He's 14 but had him since he was a pup. He;s really cute and sweet, but hard to love some days. He now is losing feeling in his lower spine and can't walk well and can't use the stairs. It is a fairly common pug problem.
Jack Russels are cute, but wild and crazy. My friend has one and it's 4 and still wild.
I say get the boston. Mine is an angel now and even when he was alive. I miss him so.

I cannot be more serious about this. Please research this decision on your own. The correct dog for someone else might not be for you. You need to think about your way of life, how you live daily and what is it you want out of a dog to compliment your life and the life of the dog.
DO NOT listen to the tests you can take on dogbreedinfo.com or the numerous other tests. I took it for the fun of it, it told me I was best suited for a Greyhound. There is no way I would be attracted to a Greyhound. There is nothing wrong with the breed, I just would not choose one for myself.
Look at several breeds before choosing one. Read up on that breed. I wish someone had told me that long ago. Everyone kept talking me out of what I thought I wanted. I did my homework. When I decided, no one could have changed my mind. I now have the perfect dog FOR ME, not for someone else. He fits into my life like he's been there forever. What I like, he likes. If we could only choose mates like that…..Give this a lot of thought……Most of the fun of shopping for a certain item is in the shopping part…Think of it that way…..Good Luck to you and your future friend.

Don't ask here. Find out the way a breed of dog is first. Big small good with people and children, how active, how old before they mellow out, do they need more time than you have? A good breeder will interview you before you can see a dog. Good luck. Possibly tell a vet or breeder that you are ready for a dog.
