Training Jack Russells

Has anyone heard of a JUG? Half Pug and Half Jack Russell?

I have a European Staffard Bull Terrier. He is 1 1/2 yrs old. I love the breed and had 2 b-4. But now I have a JUG! My staffard and the Jug get along great. My problem is the Jug is so diffrent. He barks all the time, he acts like he is starving. I only feed my dogs 2 times a day! Morning and night. I have always done that with all my dogs. I crate train my dogs. And the jug learned really fast and had my staffard as a great trainer. But he is so diffrent and I dont know much about the breed. I know there are websites and I've done that. If your wondering why I got a Jug! Its 'cause my in-laws bought it for my 10yr old and of course he is now mine. I love dogs so I dont mind but I want to know more about them,,, Thank you

I also have a JUG and I will call her a jug. yes she is designer breed. There is no dog that is 100% pure they all had to come from some place. there are some designer breeds they have now been proven and yes you can get papers for some of them. (Jugs have not been around long enough yet.)

I like how some here like to pick the bad traits of Jack Russells and Pugs.

That was not the idea of this Breed. but to make more of a balance as Jack Russells are very hyper and very smart have a long nose and are on the small side. pure breed jack russells can have hip issues.

Pugs might not be very smart have a snout that is so small that they have a hard time in the heat and over all have a hard time breathing. they also sometimes have skin issues near the eyes due to the wrinkles.

This designer breed makes a dog that looks close to a Pug but without all the health issues that Pug have.

It's just another mutt. You can make up a silly name for any mixed breed.
Since it isn't a real breed, there is no profile for them to know if this is unusual. It probably isn't though, jacks are noisy in general usually.

A JUG?! What in the world! That has gotta be one… interesting…. looking dog. Look up the characteristics of each breed, expect any combo of them. No way to tell what he will be like because he is a mutt.

I'm glad you really like your new dog and he is great, but…..please call it a Jack Russell/Pug mix. He is not a breed. The designer dog/mixed breed names sound so silly and this is the about the worst one yet. And it encourages people to breed more mixes and pass them off as purebreds. I have had mixed breed dogs and I call them what they are.

Jack Russells tend to bark a lot and yours has a good appetite. Keep feeding him twice a day, which is totally fine and don't let him con you into overfeeding him.

Jugs are the new Pek-a-Poo in the world of trying to define a mixed breed dog. They're also called Pugsells by some "breeders". Keep in mind that Pugs have breathing issues and are major chow hounds. They're also antsy when not sleeping. Jack Russell's by nature are spunky and protective, so keeping them quiet is hard. I'd suggest checking out not only sites just for Jugs, but sites for major breeds that are mixed - and look for vet input sites.

Of course I've heard of a jug…that's what my milk comes in!

There's no such breed as "Jug", it's just a name that BYBs give to mutts in order to make more money.

That is not a very good combination, sorry.Jack Russels are very active and Pugs are very active and always scrounging for food.So combine the two and you've got the worst of both worlds!I think that is part of the reason the AKC is against this type of "designer breed".
I had a pug and she would continue eating as long as you put food out,so you are doing the right thing by feeding her on a schedule, and I hope she has a lot of room to run because Jack Russells are very active.

there is no such thing as a JUG. You have a Pug/Jack Russel terrier mix. There is no way to know which traits they took from each breed. What you have is a mutt. Plain and simple.

If you want to learn about your dog the best thing to do, since it is a mix, is to look up both breeds it is mixed with because you dog will inherit traits from both breeds.
