Training Jack Russells

jack russell terrier and parson russell terrier.is it the same dog but with different name?

is jack russell and parson russell the same dog breed??? or is there something different between them ???

i ve seen a lot of jack russells and ive seen 2 different coats smooth and wire/broken coat

im looking into getting a new dog i have a 4 year old clumber and 16 month old irish setter and im looking for a dog that will enjoy long walks lots of time playing in the garden

i am considering buying another clumber or setter but im also looking into russell terrier

In the US the Parson Russell Terrier is the name of the breed and the Jack Russell Terrier is just a type of Parson Russell Terrier. In other countries they are considered different breeds. In the US, Parson Russells conform to the breed standard. Jack Russells are just Parson Russells with shorter legs. Parsons can come in smooth or wire coats. Since Jacks are just a type of short Parsons they come in the same coat types as well.

I think in some countries like Australia, the Jack Russell is recognized as its own separate breed.

My Springers' best bud is a Jack Russell. Parson Russell terriers are a very intelligent and energetic breed. I think it would get on well with your dogs.

I've noticed that you've been searching for a companion for your two dogs for a while. Have you finally settled with this breed?

Jack russells can either be smooth or wire haired, and can be short legged (jack russell) or long legged (parson jack russell).

    No, I was wrong!

Actually, the parson russell IS the jack russell. The parent club for the Jack requested the name be changed back to Parson.

According to the AKC, a Parson russell is the official name of a jack russell.

Or maybe a jack is a just a russell terrier?

The AKC doesn't make things easy.

it's a little confusing because a Parson is a Jack Russell, but a Jack Russell is not necessarily a Parson.

The true Jack Russell Terriers are long legged, contrary to popular belief. These dogs are required to be balanced. They come in 3 different types of coats. Smooth, broken, and rough.

Parson Russell Terriers are long legged. I've no idea what policies the AKC has on this breed's coat types.

English Jack Russell Terriers, Russell Terriers, Puddins, etc. etc.. are short legged.

If you're interested in getting a working dog, a terrier that can actually do what it was bred to do, get a Jrt from a JRTCA breeder. These dogs can be both shown, worked, and loved on as a companion. AKC dogs, however, are show pooches, but make companions as well.

Unlike someone said before, no.. the parent club of the Jrt did not request a name change. The parent club was NOT the JRTBA(now PRTAA) … it was the JRTCGB, affiliated with the JRTCA.
