Training Jack Russells

Is it okay to jog with a smaller breed dog (Jack Russell)?

I’ve been reading about jogging with your dog and it always says something about not jogging with smaller breeds. But does that exclude Jack Russell Terriers?

(My JRT is 8 months old)

You can jog with your dog, but not yet. Wait until he’s fully grown (with a small breed 12-14 months should be OK) to avoid putting too much stress on his growing joints. Then slowly work up time and distance and speed.

Wait until he is about 16 months old and start jogging small distances. i.e. 1 mile. You can increase the mileage after 2 weeks.

JR are great to jog with.

JRTs are excellent little runners, they excell in agility, and LOVE to run!

Just make sure he’s fully grown and mature. Try to run on grass or soft squishy tracks. It’s easier on the joints!
