Why is the cross of Saint Patrick broken in the Union Jack?

Maybe someone from Ireland would know? Is it a deliberate disrespect of Ireland? For example, they could have put it in the middle of the cross of Saint Andrew, so it would look like the center was covering its center. But the way they put its legs on opposite sides of the cross of Saint Andrew makes it look deliberately broken.

The cross of St Patrick has little to do historically w Ireland. The arms of the Kildare family - chosen by the British in 1800 as the most suitable for incorporation into the Union flag.

The paramont flag on the Union Flag is the Saltire, then the cross of St George, with St Patrick's cross on top.

The Saltire, if you ever look at one, Does not cross exactly in the centre.

This is way it is possible to fly the union flag upside down-a sign of distress.

Only call the Union Flag a Union Jack, when it is flown from the Jack, Staff of a RH Warship.
