Training Jack Russells

Chihuahua and Jack Russel VS Min Pin?

I had a Chihuahua and loved her to no end. I then had a Jack Russell but due to circumstances had to let him go. I have the opportunity to get a Min Pin with training. I only want to commit to it long term so really looking into it first. Would the Min pin be similar to the Chihuahua or more spunky like the Jack? Any info would be apreciated. Thanks

I had a Min Pin. He was given to me because the owner could not take care of him any longer. His name was Slylar and he thought he was a big dog. He was playful but not like a Jack Russell. He was very easy going. If I could I would get another one in a heart beat. He got along with other dogs. He was protective but not to the point where he could not be around other people and animals. He was very smart too. I would def. get him/her you wont be disappointed in the breed.
Skylar had a brother named Randy(Boston Terrier) they would play together but Skylar was the boss when he had enough we went to bed and Randy knew that play time was over. It use to be Randy's bed but Skylar took it over and Randy was ok with that. I also had cats with Skylar. He was fine with cats also. They left each other alone basically.

It depends. A well-bred Minature Pinscher is a active, but not hyper dog. A puppy mill (from a pet store) or backyard breeder (someone who does not do genetic testing or research pedigrees & is interested in breeding for profit) one is generally hyper & destructive, closer to a Jack Russell's energy level. The way to tell the difference? Buy from a breeder that is a member of the breed's club that tests & certifies their breeding dogs free from subluxated patellas & other genetic problems known to the breed. You can find good breeders at http://www.akc.org - contact your closest local chapter of the Miniature Pinscher club.

Since you are looking at a 2nd chance dog, another way to tell is look at his pedigree: the more champions in his ancestor's backgrounds (particulaly in his immediate parents), the better chance he is the calmer type. Show breeders breed dogs for health & temperments people can live with well.
