the dog can get his gentle leader off?

well I finally got the gentle leader and finally put it on. It fits how it should, and in the right positions, and not too loose, one finger can snuggly fit under. But the dog, he figured out how to get the part that goes over the nose he gets it into his mouth and he works it off in like 2 seconds. people here who have used gentle leaders, can you please give me tips about how you started off with it? he's 11 months old.
funny dogs. i walk 2 so thats why i kind of need some extra help with this 1 he's 60 lbs. i could handle the pulling if i had just 1 dog but honestly most times i walk the dogs i look either like a scare crow or a zombie (with the way my arms get stretched out)
greekman it took me like a month just to get used to using a crate and gentle leader!! i have had a LITTLE progress with the heal command, but if i wanted him not to pull i'd be saying heal every 5 minutes which would back fire im sure..

That is the reason they invented prongs and chokers. I have never seen a dog take off one of those.
Have you ever seen a dog hit the end of a halti at a dead run while fighting you or after another dog or whatever…not pretty.

ADD: I applaud your persistence and your dedication. You could teach the "heel" command using a prong in about 2 days and the pulling would stop totally in the first 2 minutes.
Try it, let me know if it works…

We've used one successfully for a few fosters, including a dachshund that loved to pull. The first couple of times when we put it on he would just struggle and roll around in the grass until he got it off. Be patient, put it back on, and keep walking. It takes a few times putting it back on before they realize they're either not going to walk, or walk with it on. Eventually they'll learn just to accept it.

EDIT: We've walked the above dachshund with a doberman and a miniature at the same time as well. It's a bit of a hassle to get him used to it.

My oldest hated it- I would take hime for a walk and he would scrape his nose on the pavement trying to get it off- which he did. he also scraped up his little nosey goos too thoug- I stopped using it cause I felt bad- he won..But when It was on it was wonderful great tool if you cannot wlk your pup without them pulling

We never had success with the GL. My dog would roll on the ground and paw at her face.

I had much better success with positive reinforcement training, as far as pulling on the leash.

We started off with the gentle leader, our dog never figured how to get it off but he was constantly rubbing his nose on the ground. Made walks difficult. Our trainer suggested switching to a easy walker made by the the same company. It is a harness type that hooks in the front. It works much better.

After putting the leader on, distract him with training (with treat rewards).
The leader may need a little further adjustment around the muzzle, he shouldn't be able to get it off as you know.

The newer versions of the Halti head halter have a strap that connects the halter to the regular collar so the dog cannot slip out of it. I think this is a good design revision to an already good product.

When I first got mine for my Husky, he would attack his face in the middle of the street trying to get it off and would sometimes suceed. I would just keep walking, ignoring what he was doing, and he would have no other choice but to start walking with me. As soon as he got it off, I would put it right back on. Granted, it took awhile, but persistence paid off after about a year. He is now 5 years old and walks great with it on. I think it was all worth it! Note: I do not have a gentle-leader, but a "halti-leader", which in my opinion worked much better than the gentle leader.

i just bought my puppy one also, make sure that you have the proper size for your dog. next make sure that the collar part is around the top of his neck, near his head.. Also the leash should attach to the mouth piece
