You need to get the meds from the vet. They will dispense it according to your dog's weight.
Don't get your meds over the counter or from a feed store. Many years ago, when I was inexperienced, I gave my dog a dewormer from a feed store and it almost killed the dog. Fortunately, it recovered, but my vet said not to EVER buy those things. They aren't that reliable and they can hurt or kill your dog.
Just go to the vet.

praziquantal is the dewormer you want to use.
dogs get tapeworms by eating infected fleas, so flea treatment (frontline or advantix or advantage) is probally needed as well.

You can buy buy pills to rid your dog of tapeworms at any larger pet store, but it's always wise to take a sample of your dog's poop to the vet to have it tested for other worms and parasites… Your vet can give you a "broad spectrum" medication that can eradicate all sorts of parasites at the same time.

The best way is to take the dog to the vet. However, there are over the counter "worming" pills that yo can purchase at a pet store.
Personally, I would opt to take the dog to the vet.
Good Luck!!

You should go to the vet. They will probably give you some medication to help kill the tape worm. Some people would try to cut the tape worm, but if you don't cut the head it will just grow back.

Take him to the Vet. get him wormed and a Flea shot. Overcount the counter isn't that effective on tapeworms.

Your vet can give you the proper medication to get rid of them, However, tapeworms come from flees so it would be wise to also treat for fleas by using a product purchased from your vet such as Frontline or Advantage. Avoid over the counter flea meds as they tend to be less effective and are known for potentially bad side effects.
Also clean dogs bedding and other areas of the house that could be infested.
DE (Diematicious Earth) (sp?) is a good, natural product to kill fleas in carpets and sleeping areas that cant be washed.

Take your Jack Russel Terrier to the vet to have a fecal exam to make sure it is tape worms and also to see if their are other parasites in your dog.
Once your Vet diagnose what is going on in your dogs body the Vet will be able to also treat the cause of the worms too by giving you a prescription for what type of worms your pet has
Good luck

Just call your vet, a lot of times you don't even have to take the dog in to get the meds. They just need you to bring in a poo sample. If you do its not expensive anyways. But DO NOT buy that over the counter crap. I doesn't work and it can be dangerous to give. Then put your dog on a once a month treatment for fleas and that also keeps the worms gone too. That only about 10 to15 a month depending on the size of your dog. Most help for the heart worm too. good luck to you and your dog
