Yorkshire Terrier breeder recommendations in SoCal?

I've searched online, before you ask!

I've narrowed it down to about 3 breeders to check out, but I'm wondering if anyone has a Yorkshire Terrier that they've gotten from a responsible breeder, a breeder that they would recommend? It's a bit difficult choosing a breeder, but I don't want a pup that hasn't been bred/raised properly.

I'd rather not pay over $2000, but I'm not opposed to slightly higher prices.

(I don't want to hear about dogs without papers or dogs that you got for $400 out of the newspaper, sorry.)

Thank you in advance!

The best way to get a breeder referral to a responsible breeder (good for you for not looking in the newspapers!),
is from the breed's parent club
Yorkshire Terrier:
http://www.ytca.org/
Here are some suggested questions one can use to determine if a breeder is truly responsible:

1. Is she an AKC registered breeder of good standing and an active member of her breed Parent Club?

2. Are there AKC Champions listed on the pedigree, showing that the breeder spends her time & money to prove the quality of her breeding stock through competition?

3. Are all the animals kept in clean, comfortable, healthy, loving circumstances?

4. Did the breeder conduct extensive interviews with you and every member of your family?

5. Have the sire & dam received all available health clearances, (eg. OFA Hip & Eye, Thyroid testing, THESE VARY FOR EACH BREED)

6. Is she willing to honestly discuss any possible genetic defects that may exist in her line?

7. Does she have a Sales Contract?

8. Does the contract contain a clause stipulating that you spay or neuter the puppy before it reaches a certain
age?

9. Does the contract contain a clause stating that if at any time in the puppy's life, you can no longer care for it, it must be returned to the breeder? (This ensures that no animal bred by this breeder will ever end up in a shelter).

10. Will the breeder maintain contact with you for the life of the puppy to answer questions and help in general?

where in rhode island/ct can i find a legit staffordshire bull terrier breeder?

either in rhode island, ct or mass area, just looking for breeders, i have been all over the internet and i cannot seem to find a legit website that sells staffy bulls

I know of a couple in NJ or New York area.
but nothing closer to you. Also here is a link to breeders.
http://sbtca.com/final.pdf
You may have to fly a pup in..

e-mail if you want contact info.
geminiast@yahoo.com.

I doubt they would find a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in the SPCA but may find 1 in rescue. But they are not in rescues often.
this person is not asking about an American Staffordshire Terrier or an American Pit Bull Terrier. They are asking for a Staffordshire Bull Terrier which is very different from the APBT and AST.

Where can I find a Border Terrier Breeder in MA?

I have been doing some research on this dog, and was curious if they are smart… a lot of websites said they were loyal and don't shed, two wonderful characteristics… but I was wondering if anyone knew if they were smart as well. Also, if you have any other suggestions for suitable breeds that would be helpful.
Desired Characteristics:
-sheds little to no fur
-friendly
-Little to medium in size
-smart
-doesn't bark constantly
Also, do Border Terriers bark a lot ?

I owned a border terrier for 12 years before he sadly passed away two years ago. Borders are terrific, smart, friendly, scrappy little dogs, with lots of personality. They love to be with family members at all times - definitely not loners - if you walk out of the room, they will follow; if you sit down, they will sit ON your feet. I don't want to discourage you from getting a Border terrier (I would get another in a heartbeat) - however, they are not the breed for everyone. Barking is not a common characteristic of the breed, but they can be barkers and have a big bark for a little dog. Also, when we got our Border, part of our criteria was that the dog not be a shedder. Needless to say, we spent 12 years loving our dog and scooping up fur from the floor as well as constantly cleaning fur off our clothes. Even so, we wouldn't have traded him for the world - his personality and energy more than made up for the inconvenience of the fur balls. Good luck!

Abyssinian Sand Terrier breeder?

I'm looking to buy a dog known as the Abyssinian Sand Terrier or African Hairless dog. Although recognized by the CKC, I haven't been able to find a breeder anywhere. Can anyone help me find an Abyssinian Sand Terrier?

Your best resource for finding one of these dogs, would be to find a reputable breeder in your area. I would contact some reputable breeders and see if they know of anyone in the area that has these dogs. Stay away from dogs over the Internet, usually a sign of puppy mill or BYBs.

Reputable breeders will have ample information on all the genetics and breeding's regarding their dogs. they normally will be a small population of dogs, and not someone who breeds dogs as their main income. Check with local shelters, some keep lists of reputable breeders to refer people to

EDIT: reallyp….
She asked for help finding a breeder. I'm suggesting the best way to go about doing that. Its a rare breed she is searching for, so the best thing would be to find a reputable breeder of another breed of dog, and ask them for assistance. This is very common, and I know from helping persons at my shelter that it works. So no its not a horrible answer, and its the best way to find the breed she is looking for. I guarantee its her best bet.

Where can i find a reputable breeder jack russell terrier breeder in the NY, NJ , CT area?

I don't want a "shortie" thats why i changed it because my vet didnt recomemend the "shortie" so now i am interested in the classic jack russell. again, i do not want a "shortie"

Please check out the Russell Rescue website. I'm sure there's one in that area. Lots of the dogs they have for adoption are full stock, it's just that the wrong people got them to begin with!!! Br ready for them to rule your world. I know, I have three!! One by choice and have rescued 2! My second rescue came from an individual who handed me her CKC papers along with the dog, and I laughed!!! Her little legs are so short that I guess CKC would register anything and I threw them in the trash. Mine aren't for breeding anyway, they are for loving companionship!! Papers don't mean squat when it comes to these little dogs! Again, please consider your Russell Rescue!

Do you need to go to a breeder for a Yorkshire Terrier?

I want to get one at a pet place or mspca but do you need to go to a breeder for a yorkshire terrier?

You either want to buy one from a reputable breeder or adopt from the shelter or rescue. You do not one to buy one from a pet shop since those come from puppy mills and BYB and normally have a number of health and behavior issues.
