Training Jack Russells

are jack russell terriers bad for people with allergies to pet dander?

would adopting a jack russell terrier be alright if my mom has slight dander allergies? please only serious answers. thankyou!

No. A JRT is not a good choice for allergy sufferers. They have a lot of dander and shed a lot.

What are your thoughts on Jack Russell Terriers?

I am a proud owner of one, soon to be two (YAY!) but Iam curious to know what others think of the breed.

Thanks in advance :) I am going to agree that they are VERY misunderstood and alot of people have no idea what they are getting themselves into with them, but its always good to hear peoples feedback on them!!!! haha Humorous..really lol

I am also owned by a jack Russell Terrier. I love the breed but I think that they are seriously misunderstood. I think that people buy them without doing their research and then end up with a ball of energy that they can't control. However that being said, I think for someone who really loves them they are awesome dogs. Congrats on your second one by the way!

Are Jack Russell Terriers known for staring alot?

I have a 7 month old dog whom I believe is a Italian greyhound/JRT mix. I've thought that for a while. But I notice her staring at people a lot. Is that a JRT trait? Someone said she reminds them of Eddie from Frasier.

Jack russell terriers are about one the best dogs you can have. I had one and now I have 8 goldens. They are the smartest dogs I have ever seen.

Do all pure jack russell terriers have their ears pointed down?

b/c I have one and always thought he was a purebreed but he has his ears pointed up and whenever I see one live or in a picture their ears are always pointing down!

It doesn't really matter just wondering but if you know the answer then thanks!

I myself have a JRT/mix, she is 10 mos old. Yes JRT's can be born w/what they call prick ears. unfortunately, they could never be a show dog. Also, Tails, most are docked, but in the UK, they don't believe in tail docking, what the JRT is born with stays…but just cause of the ears does not mean that it is a mix..

Are Jack Russell Terriers okay for beginners?

I do have some experiance with training(i watch a lot of animal plant). i'm trying to convince my mom to get a dog but she won't get a big one. So I narrowed my choices down to a Jack, and a Beagel. <–but they are more for experienced owners. buttt, we have never had a dog.

Jack Russells are hyper and tend to bark a lot. Beagle's bay (howl) which can be annoying. My suggestion is to do a lot of reading about owning/raising/training a dog, then go to your local animal shelter and give a shelter puppy a new home. Both of my dogs are from shelters and they are fabulous!

P.S. they are websites that will help you pick the best breed for you-here's a site to get you started:

Can you get puppy's at shelters? Also info on Jack Russell terriers?

I would like to get a dog but my mom wants a semi-puppy (like 4-5 months old? I dunno). If we go to a shelter, would I be able to find one there?

Also does anyone here have experience with Jack Russell terriers?

I saw this one:

They seem really cute as puppies, but I want to know how they are as they mature. Are they still small enough to pick up and can they be mainly indoor dogs or do they need to be outside all the time? If they do then I don't think this is the right dog for me….I don't have time to spend hours outside doing all that stuff.

Not all dogs from the same breed act the same. If you get one from the shelter, just tell the shelter workers about yourself, and they will tell you whether or not the Jack Russel in the shelter is right for you.
People can get puppies at shelters.
Look through this list for your state and see if there are any of these Jack Russel puppies are in a shelter near you. :)

My mom says I need to find things about them.Does any one know anything about Jack Russell Terriers?

My family is getting a Jack Russll Terrier. My mom says I need to look up stuff about them.Does any one know any thing about a Jack Russell Terrier?

They're fox hunters. They are very intelligent, athletic, and they don't scare easy. They tend to get bored fast, so they make their own fun.

They're stubborn, so you have to be a little stern with them for that.

Does anybody know how long female Jack Russell Terriers are in heat and when do they stop bleeding?

Also how long are they pregnant before they give birth?

The whole process is about three weeks. the middle week or so is when they have bloody discharge and are accepting of the male advances. Once bred, they are pregnant for 58-64 days. If you believe your dog has bred you should contact your vet for advice. Many recommend dietary changes and supplements during pregnany. They can also guide you through the expectations of the pregnancy and delivery. They can perform ultrasounds to check the size and number of puppies, which can help to anticipate the possibility of c-section. Also, the vet should be familiar with your dog during her pregnancy, in case an emergency arises. In the future, consider spaying your dog to help prevent hormonally caused cancers and uterine infections, both of which can easily be fatal. Best wishes.
