I bought my Jack Russell when she was 8 wks old and her nose was black. now she is 13 wks old and the middle part of her nose is turning brown, is that normal? will it eventually turn completely brown?

excellent question for your vet. some breeds do have pigment changes in the nose that are perfectly normal. there is a condition called snow nose that happens in certain breeds for an unknown reason and it is completely benign. sometimes the nose turns back, sometimes not. if you are concerned about it please talk to your vet.

Is it once a year, month, or week?

My dogs are on a raw diet and get raw meaty bones daily that keep their teeth clean. I have never brushed a dog's teeth in my life and they have never needed a dental at the vets. My oldest dog is 12yo and she has perfect teeth.

My dogs are vet checked every 6 months and all their teeth are clean, white and healthy. Even the rescue dogs who come here with rather dirty looking teeth come good in short order with the raw bones.

I have two JRT and they wake me up two to three times a night. I walk them at least two times a day, take their water away well before bedtime, but they still whine and bark at night (to be fed, for a drink, to go outside). I take them on a "mini" walk before bed to get the last bathroom breaks to try and get a full night's sleep. Help!!!

Dogs should always have access to fresh, clean water.

They whine because they know it will get a reaction from you. Are they crated? Try crating them in another room, and close the bedroom door if you have to so you can't hear them.

I am considering adopting a jack russell terrier puppy, and I was wondering if any owners could give me advice? Is there anything important I should know? I'm just out of college, living in an apartment with my boyfriend, and we work most of the day. However, I do love animals, and I have owned dogs before; I understand the amount of attention they need.

Would this be the best decision for me?

The Jack Russell Terrier isn't for you.

Being that you live in an apartment and are gone most of the day.

Jacks are very high energy and need lots of exercise, walks, playtime and attention.

Also are you able to put the dog in training classes….I would recommend one if you get a jack.

I have a beautiful little Jack Russell mix and she is pretty mellow for the most part (we are lucky)

But if she doesn't get the proper exercise she gets destructive (We were couped up all weekend and today she dug a hole in my couch) and she runs zoomies (which results in things getting knocked over)

It helps that I am with her almost all day but still if you aren't going to be home you don't need such an active breed.

My mix is not half as active as the typical Jack Russell Terrier (some times they are referred to as Jack Russell Terroists)

I love my dog but I will never own a purebred Jack Russell Terrier

I love my dog and she is perfect for us but it helps that she is mellow….most jacks aren't.

I would suggest looking into dogs with less energy.

AND is it possible to tell if a JRT puppy will grow up and have a beard?

Both of my JRT's are 1-2 years old and get a reasonable amount of exericse each day, but both are gaining too much weight. They have been eating IAMS lamb and rice almost exclusively since they were pups.

I am the wrong one to ask.. I think that Eukaneuba is the best dog food for ANY dog.

I want to get a Jack russel terrier. But my mom has some concerns.
1. Are they good with cats?
2. Are they excited a lot of the time?
3. How will they behave during walks?
4.How fast do they run?
5. Are they friendly most of the time?

I would REALLY appreciate an answer from someone experienced with Jack russel terriers. Be honest please because I really want this dog.

I have a super hilarious jack russel…the best dog in the world…baxter is a clown!

yes he's good friends with the cats

he's constantly in a state of hyperactive

he's fabulous during walks

very fast runners, but not constantly

very friendly and personable dog
