Just curious if there is a difference in attitude in either a male or female Jack Russell Terrier? Also are they good dogs?
I have a female and she is great…always happy and running around. They are good dogs if taken care of properly and given tons of exercise and playtime as well as socialization. They do want a LOT Of ATTENTION…mine follows me around everywhere….I can't even move around in the room without her having to move with me. All she ever wants to do is play…especially with tennis balls. Mine will retrieve the ball all day long and bark if i dont throw it for her right away.
As cute as they are, they will wear you out and drive people nuts….no matter how much you love dogs.
I started taking mine to obedience school as soon as I got her and have contined through all the levels. She is almost one and I am just starting her in agility training. They are soo smart and learn quick. However, they are very persistent and stubborn…they may know how to do a lot….but will still play games with you and be disobedient. You need to have a great deal of time on your hands to care for one otherwise they can display a lot of negative behaviors.
Good luck!!! Do a lot of research before you get one!!!

I have a 5 year old female Jack Russell terrier who generally does not get along with other animals, except for my friends 2 year old male JRT. I am interested in adopting a two month old male JRT but I am worried that this will not be healthy for my current dog and that she will change her temperament.
It depends. Its better to get a male, since you already have a female. Most females don't get along.. because of dominance issues.
I think its better that your getting a puppy in this case. Shes more likely to accept it… since its younger, it will be more willing to accept her as the leader. But the number one leader is you. And don't let them think otherwise.
If you don't want them breeding, you might want to get him neutered, or her spayed. Or possibly both.
If you don't plan on ever breeding your bitch, its best to spay her. Otherwise there will be hormones pinging around in her body, which can cause cancer. So yes, theres a chance there for a bitch who isn't ever being bred to get cancer.
She may be a bit jealous. Its common for that to happen. Make sure she sees that your spending time with her as well.
Introduce them.. but don't keep them together for long periods of time. Get them used to each other. Don't push them into a friendship. Keep them supervised because she could hurt the pup.
Good luck!

my family is looking for a pet. this is goin to be our 1st pet besides bryan our gold fish. how much do u think a jack russell terrier would b as a puppy and do u think they will make a good 1st pet ?
No, they won't.
I have two Jack Russell Terriers and they are puppies and they are NOT family pets.
Although they are small they were bred to be hunters and will go insane in a backyard without regular exercise, two 30 minute walks/jogs should suffice.
They need plenty of play time as well.
You should NEVER buy a pet since they are prone to come from puppy mills where they are in poor conditions.
Go to a shelter and pick out a dog there!
Good Luck!

I am getting a new jack russel terrier next week… I know the puppy already but I'm not sure on what to name her… I have 2 dogs… a chihuahua named Miley and a beagle named Lexy but I just don't know a name for the jack russel I'll get next week… any good suggestions?
Something beginning with an "N" perhaps?…as your first 2 dogs start with "L" followed by "M"…so…you could keep the sequence by alphabetical order going….
Nemo, Nero, Nixon, Nolan or perhaps Noddy (personal fav…sounds like a cute name for a cute active breed)…

I caught a brief few minutes of some highly entertaining dog racing one Saturday afternoon not too long back. It was a steeplechase race with Jack Russel Terriers. Anyone know where video of this can be found?

My Jack Russell Terrier, Toby has been afraid of the garbage truck for years. He shakes for hours. I hate to see him this way. Any ideas how I can help him?
Who knows what goes in a dog's mind! They are loud, large, and probably positively horrifying for Toby! My Welsh Corgi was terrified of doors. You had to hold it open all the way and not let it close at all or she wouldn't go through it. Sometimes even her favorite treats couldn't persuade her to go through the door. As for ways to help him, when you're home that is, hold him close to you, speak softly to him, and pet him gently. I don't believe there's anything you can do for him while you're away. Why the garbage truck? I don't know. Why you? Don't ask. Why your poor pooch Toby? Nada. Just take what you've got and make him feel as at home and comfortable as possible!

I am considering to get another dog so that my dachshund will have a play mate. Will a pomeranian or a jack russel terrier get along with my dachshund? or will they fight?
Thanks for answering
Dachshunds are great dogs, but they are not for everybody
Here is information on the breed that will help you decide whether or not this breed is right for you.

I live in an apartment and am 17 yrs old and the dog will be alone at home for around 2-4 hrs a day. My mom is really scared of dogs and hates when they bark. I dont have any yard and I live in a city. I had first decided on a labrador but then I thought of a Jack Russell Terrier. Can some1 pls help me out on which breed should I go for? I want such a breed I can easily find in India. Im sorry the question is really long, but Im looking for a puppy since the past 4 months and cant dicide on any 1 breed. Pls help me.
they are both good breeds. Now labs are a whole lot bigger than the jack russell terriers. And living in the city and no yard that is really bad for a lab.
I live in a smalll apartment and in a small town in Texas. So i got a rat terrier. She adjusts to my life in a apartment just right. They love walks but just need a good place to run off some steam every so often. They love to play, and easy to train for paper training. Love to be petted and cuddled. Piper doesnt bark until someone comes to the door or at night if someone is outside where they shouldnt be. Other than that they are perfect.
I would also suggest to get a puppy and let your mom be around it while it is growing up and let her see they arent mean. You treat a dog right and you will get nothing but 100 percent love and devotion right back.
Look in the thriftynickel ads if you have one in your area. Or go to puppyfind.com but they will be higher. And talk to your vet he might know of someone who has one just for you.
good luck
