i have 2 male jack russels 1 year old and they have been fighting alot and drawing blood what can i do?

my 2 jack Russell's one year old fighting and i am worried they are going to bite one my kids and kill each other i need some serious advice soon as possible

DO NOT GET BOTH DOGS NEUTERED. You must decided which dog is the least dominant and get him neutered. If you get them both done they will both be on the same level and they will continue fighting.

Why do I see a lot of terriers like jack russels with one back hoppy leg?

Oh goodness, I wouldn't have found it funny if I'd known the poor things had a hip or knee problem.

I've noticed that sometimes with my jack but at the same time when he lifts his leg to pee he can do handstands and walk on his front legs only for a good few steps

What do you think is better Rat Terriers or Jack Russels?

I have a rat terrier and their so cute especially when they sleep or have their ears down looking all sad.

I think RAT TERRIERS are better and probably shed less than jack russels

I own a rat terrier (my second), I know a lot of rattie owners and am active on a rat terrier listserv.

1. Both are great breeds. Unfortunately, b/c of BYBs (when the JRT became popular), there is a lot of Jack Russell stock out there that is dumb and hyper and out of control. A well-bred JRT or PRT should never be hyper and out of control.

That said…

2. I'd have to say the Rat Terrier is better. Many reasons why:
–The very first rat terrier of all time (Chip, owned by President Teddy Roosevelt who created the rat terrier breed) is buried on the White House lawn. No JRT can say that.
–Ratties are faster and more athletic than JRTs (I know, hard to believe–JRTs are great athletes and superb at tricks). But a similar-sized rat terrier will have longer legs, a longer stride and thus be faster than a JRT. And as athletic and quick as JRTs are, Ratties have greyhound and whippet in their gene pool–they're nothing but muscle and tendons. All you have to do is look at the silohette of a JRT vs. a Rattie, the rat terrier has a huge chest and no belly.
–Rat Terriers are more people oriented. All dogs love people and want approval. But Rat terriers especially connect with their people–usually going with the humans over other dogs. They'll try to sleep in your bed under your covers all the way down by your feet (haven't found a JRT who wanted to do that). My rat terrier has been friends with a bunch of JRTs. The JRT owners talk about how their JRTs rarely get along with any other dogs or are even anti-social with some humans (I know, not true of all JRTs) while my rat terrier was given a "social butterfly" bandana from his puppy kindergarten class.
–Rat Terriers make cute, almost non-dog noises.
–I agree that Ratties shed less than JRTs. For starters, rat terriers have a shorter coat. And they're almost bald on their bellies. They have less hair to shed. JRTs (and I'm not even talking about the rough coat versions) are bred to spend all day outside in the heather going after foxes–they have a longer, coarser, more all-around coat. There is more to shed there. Of course rat terriers shed but JRT's shed more.
–except for alarm barking, rat terriers don't bark as much as JRTs.
–Rat Terriers weren't recognized by AKC until recently (and still aren't allowed to do conformance and show events). As a result, they cost less to purchase and have fewer puppy mills cranking them out (while the glut of hyper JRT's is testimony to what puppy mills can do to a breed and the quality of the stock when that breed becomes popular).

JRTs are great little dogs and the dog of choice for rooting out a fox. But for everything else, I'd go with a rat terrier.

Jack Russels + Horse = ?

I have 2 male jack russels and are considering getting a horse. Would they make a good companion for a horse or would that not be safe? (Generally nice dogs. Good with some other animals.)Thanks!
P.s The horse would be fenced and could not get to the dogs, but the dogs would be right on the other side of the fence.

As long as the horse has been around dogs before and gets along with them, then they should be fine. Some horses hate dogs and will try to kick or bite which can obviously be very bad for the dog. If the dogs have never been around large animals before, they may be scared of the horse or they may think it's fun to chase it ( which could result in a kicking or biting incident). So you might want to see how they behave around a horse before you get one; and when you do get a horse ask if it gets along with dogs. Sometimes it just takes some time for the animals to get used to one another, but until they do, keep a close eye on them to make sure your dogs don't get hurt.

are jack russels easy to breed?

i got him from a friend and i could use the money but i am worried with his peronallity that it would screw him up. after i had saved enough i was going to get him fixed.
i know that they are hyper i have had buddy scence he was around 1 month old i have thought about breeding him before but i am worried about a personallity change.

Breeding isn't a good source of money due to all the money and work that you have to put into it. I've worked at a GSD breeders for 3-4 years now, and she's been breeding for over 30 years trying to make the dogs look and behave the way they should. All of us workers still get paid, but it's a larger scale breeder's with expensive dogs due to the quality that they are and the work that goes into them. We've been downsizing and adopting out some of our dogs, because it's tough to make ends meet. Luckily, my boss's husband still is working, otherwise, my boss would've had to give this up a long time ago. It's not quick money, and it's not easy money, so I'd just consider that…From someone who's had experience with it.

where do jack russels some from?

I need to know where jack russel terriers come from for school

their mommy.lol sorry couldn’t resist that

Jack Russell terriers were first bred by the Reverend Mr. John Russell, a parson and hunting enthusiast born in 1795. In his last year of university at Oxford he bought a small white and tan terrier bitch called Trump. She was the basis for a breeding programme to develop a terrier with high stamina for the hunt as well as the courage and formation to chase out foxes that had gone to ground, but without the aggressiveness that would result in their harming the fox, which was considered unsporting.
The line of terriers developed by John Russell was well respected for these qualities and, when he died in 1883, his dogs were taken on by other hunt enthusiasts.
The first split between the types of Russell terriers may have occurred early in their history with dogs being sold by the sister of John Russell’s kennel man. These she described as “Jack Russells” but they may not have been part of the line of terriers developed by John Russell.
Instead they may have been shorter-legged working terriers of variable heritage. Later, around the turn of the century, the secretary of the Parson Jack Russell Terrier Club bred a strain of terriers for badger digging. These needed the brave character and endurance of the Jack Russell Terrier, which were crossed with Bull Terriers to give a stronger and harder dog with shorter legs than the original type. Again these were described as “Jack Russells”.

what kind of dogs do jack russels not get along with?

I am owned by three female jack russell terriers. My oldest will soon be 5, next one will be 4 in June, the baby will be three in May. I intended to have only one, the other two are rescues that I couldn't turn away. All three are full stock and are the most amazing creatures I have ever encountered. They get along great, play a little rough from time to time, and like to try and bully each other. But just like people, when push comes to shove, they are very protective of each other. But it takes a special kind of person to share their life with a jrt, so think long and hard before making the commitment. If you decide to share your life with one, or two, or three!, you will never be the same! I love my dogs with all my heart and my world revolves around them. How could it not?!! They insist on it, but the rewards are tenfold! By the way, they get along with all of the dogs they've ever encountered! Many different breeds and sizes, but best of all with each other!
