Training Jack Russells

when do you have jack Russell 's puppies tails cut?

my jack russell is having puppies soon and since I'm new at this I have no idea when to have the tails cut and can they be done at home?

No, it cannot be done at home by an inexperienced person.
You need to take them to the vet, and get it done when they are 3 days old.

What Other Food Can Jack-Chi Puppies Eat?

hi,

I have an 8week old Jack-Chi puppy. I was wondering, what other food can i feed her besides kibble? ie: fruits, veggies? etc.

know of any sites that has this info?

You could always feed her Raw Meat and Bones.

Feeding a dog a raw diet would be biologically appropriate for their species. Dogs, contrary for popular belief, are carnivores, and therefore need to eat meat to thrive (they can SURVIVE without meat, but would certainly not be thriving) and feeding raw meat would be absolutely wonderful.

Dogs immune systems are made different than ours; they can handle A LOT more than we would ever be able to. Plus, dogs digest their food much faster than us humans too (Their digestive systems are made to only digest meat, not plant matter) so bacteria really does not have that much time to settle in.

Here is a wonderful article about bacteria in raw meat:

http://rawfed.com/myths/bacteria.html

If you are cosidering feeding raw as a complete diet there are many things you need to do first.

Before you even THINK of feeding raw, you need to do as much research possible on the subject as to not harm your dog be not feeding it properly, etc. This means reading books, articles, asking around, etc. It means A LOT of work. Feeding raw should not be taken lightly. Many things could go wrong.

Here is a site debunking many of the myths about raw as well as giving you helpful info on the subject:

More sites on raw feeding:

When done correctly, a raw diet can mean many great thngs for your dog. Just make sure you really look into the subject before jumping into raw feeding!

My Jack Russell just had puppies and one pup is white and 5 are reddish/tan with dark brown.?

They have black ears and the dark brown encircles their eyes. Are they still Jack Russell Terriers?

First of all…. no one should be saying they're mutts yet, because you don't even know who the sire of the litter was.

And… to be registered, the pups must be at least 51% white. Theres a lot of other reccommendations, but we're talking about color at them moment.

Colors acceptable for the Jrt are as follows: Black and white, Tan and White, Tri, and Completely white. Ticking can be found on ANY of these colors.

Ideal markings are a facial mask, and a dab of color at the base of the tail.

Brindle and Blue merle colors are a sign of foreign blood, and are not accepted.

Now, to answer your question… they MIGHT be Jrts. You haven't given us enough information to be able to tell if they are or not. It isn't the color that we need to know. Its who the sire of the litter is. If you can supply us with that information, we might be able to tell.

Jack Russell Terrier Puppies for sale in my area?

I’m looking for somewhere I could possible get a puppy for under $400 within 100 miles of the very Northeast corner of Texas.

In Northeast Texas.. there's Daydream Kennels, and our kennel Krystal Kourt. Daydream kennels has excellent dogs. They are hunting dogs, they are show dogs. They're proven, tested, shown, etc.

Our dogs are just the same.

We got 2 of our dogs from them. Right now, we have no current litters. But they do. They're probably the best breeders you can find in your area.

http://www.daydreamjrt.com

Also, there's House O Jacks kennels in Oklahoma.. they have nice dogs as well. If your interested in them, tell me.. I'll send you the site address for them as well.

Hope that helps. I was here not long ago. They have … 3 litters? Of some really nice pups on the ground.

When I say nice… I mean healthy, nicely conformated, and have working bloodlines.

Again, they're probably the best breeders you can find in your area…. and I believe the price was somewhere close to $400.

What foods can I NOT feed my Jack Russell Terrier Puppies?

I don't want to feed them something that is hazerdous to them.
So i want to know what to NOT feed them.

do they have allergies?

please tell me! = [

puppies…jack russells….heh youre in for a handful there……..
Depends on how old they are…if theyre under 8 weeks they need their mothers milk or formula..over 8 weeks gradually introduce a good quality puppy kibble (IF you get from petco, the best IMO are Nutro or Purina Pro. but even better quality kibbles are Wellness, Innova, Merrick, and others at feed farms and holistic pet stores)
A few months older you can give them some veggies like carrot sticks and pumpkin as training treats. Once a week they can have fruit like apples and bananas. Cheese is too rich for dogs and can upset their stomachs. Corn is a possible allergen for dogs, so you should also avoid kibble with corn as main ingredients or at all.

My jack russell pup is a mix. Dont know for sure with what. But when I see purebred JRTs, adults seem to be overweight in their middle, having big bellies like beagles can get, so be careful about overfeeding and not to free feed. and lots of luck! jack russells are so lovable and fun.

Are Jack Russell puppies a good house dog?

I am thinking about getting a jack russell, Is it a good house dog are they hard to train?

Jack Russell Terriers are adorable dogs….smart and no harder to train than any other puppy. J Rs are also little bundles of energy, so don't be fooled by their size. They can make an excellent house dog, if you are a stay at home person, but be aware…they do not (for the most part) like to be left alone cooped up inside while you are gone for long periods of time. This breed has been known to chew up your favorite shoes and couch cushions when left alone, long after the "puppy" stage. They also (for the most part) have a very loving and gentle personality, and love to show affection.
As with any dog, the way you train it will reflect on the dog's behavior. If you have even a small fenced yard, you might consider putting the dog out if you need to be away from home for very long. Give him/her fun toys to play with while you are gone.
When you are home, you will probably find a Jack Russell to be your best friend. They have that lovely "lap dog" personality, but also love to play. A Jack Russell needs more excersise than other dogs of the same size and when they don't get it, can become destructive. It's not that they are mean, just trying to burn that energy.
If you like to take long walks/runs…….this dog will not only keep up with you, but might wear you out.
They are also very smart, and with a little training and lot's of love, will do just about anything to please you.
If you want a little laid back house dog, a Jack Russell probably is not the breed for you.
Good luck making your choice.

buying 2 Jack Russell puppies at the same time - Is this a disaster?

I have got it in my head that I want to get two Jack Russell puppies (both males) this is my favorite breed. No kids, i'm in my late 20's, not married (yet). I have done alot of research online about the breed — so far I have read a number of "testimonials" (lol) from people saying, this is a crapshoot - and that I'm a fool for getting 2 of this type of breed at the same time….others say that getting them both at the same time is the only way to ensure they will get along (b/c being raised as pups together, etc). I heard they are untrainable, will drive me nuts trying to train both, etc. etc. I am convinced if I train them right from the start — I can do it on my own. I had a samoyed years ago living w/ me and my family, but now I will training these two on my own — What are some opinions? (i'm not concered with cost of food for both, etc. they will have great living conditions). Anyone ever have this situation how did it go? 2 JRT pups can't be all that bad — right??
*PS can u crate train 2 pups with one crate? (I can afford to buy two, but which is more feasible and correct for them).
*if raising them together is not the answer - when the appropriate time to get the 2nd one then?
rysin - I was simply asking the question about the crate, b/c I wasn't sure. obviously you're reading comprehension skills are lacking. glad we established that.

MY 2 JACKS ARE BROTHERS!!!!

These are the BEST DOGS ever and I swear if I could have a whole farm of Jacks I would — My Jacks are brothers (Same parents) but they are a year apart…(1 & 2 yrs old) I got my first boy and loved him so much I just had to get another one…..I called the breader and she gave me pick of the litter. At first it was a little crazy but they are GREAT together and I seriously think that having 2 makes it nice for them because Jacks are so active — They NEED playmates.

Honestly — If you can get them a few months apart you'd probably be better off…Not only for training but for bonding with you too! Also, as for Jacks getting along with other dogs — As long as you socialize your dog with other dogs early on you'll have no issues — We go to the dog park on a regular basis and they are friends with everyone (including many other jacks). Also, just for the record…My sister has a female Jack and all 3 of them are buddies but she is DEFINITLEY in charge!

As for training — Mine both trained at everything no problem…. They will do ANYTHING for cheese! Also, I know they say to crate train but I didnt want to — I have a doggy door and my guys have full access to my house. The older boy is the perfect dog…the younger one was a little aggressive with me but I broke him of that now and he is all cuddles (Total Momma's boy)…he also chewed a lot but as long as I leave him a chewy stick and put away my shoes we are all good.

Ahhh — You will LOVE them!..But Seriously — I'd do one and then get another one a little later.
