you guys have changed my mind about getting any sort of terrier,
i am reeli into puggles atm, a couploe of things i need to know::
1. my friend has one and he says they shed..alot!- is this true, is there a dog like a puf (with the same cuteness and size and ball fetching abilities (lol) as a puggle or pug x jack russell?)
and
2. because their tales are curling up, does this mean you can constantly see their rectum ? (didnt mean to be rude)
would love some answers, especially on whether this dog is a good house pet - obviously a house with a yard lol.
also, any suggestions of dogs to look at cross breeds or purebreads, would be greatly accepted.
TKS!
ok, can i just say to "blue violet", you are a complete dumbass!! and you obviously know nothing about dogs, heres why:
a PUGGLE is a pug x BEAGLE, and a pug x jack russell, is just a pug x jack russell..
blue violets statement:
"Okay, first thing's first. There is no such breed as a Puggle. Anyone who sells you one is a backyard breeder out for a quick buck. As there is no such breed, and no breed standard or anything to go by, you can never be certain of what you will end up with. If you really want a Pug cross Jack Russell (notice I refrain from calling them Puggles"
Also, these are readily sold in pets paradise, all over australia.
SO TAKE THAT B!TCH
The thing about a cross-bred dog like a puggle is that each one is a little different from the next, even within the same litter. Each puppy might take after one parent dog to varying degrees. If you want a puggle that fetches well, then you should make sure both parent dogs are good fetchers and that you are willing to train yours to fetch!
As for shedding, you will find that all shedding breeds lose a lot of hair around the house. This can be minimized somewhat (in all dogs) by regular grooming with a soft brush (like a zoom-groom) and by keeping the dog at a relatively constant level - ie: if it's really hot or really cold outside, then the dog should only be out for playtime and potty time. If a dog spends a lot of time at one temperature (inside) and then must hang outside at a different temperature (say, while you are at school or at work) then it's body will be confused as to how much hair it needs to grow, and it will thus shed more.
Having your pet spayed or neutered seems to help a bit with the shedding also, because hormones play a pretty good role in shedding.
Many small breed dogs make great pets and have the attributes you are looking for without the excess shedding - miniature poodles, bichons, etc - don't be put off by their silly haircuts - you don't have to have them cut that way.
Good luck in your dog search, and good work doing your research BEFORE getting the dog!

I have a little pug who is going to deliver within two weeks. The father is a Jack Russell. Both parents are on the premises. Please send me a picture of your little one. I would like to show my 4 yr old what they will look like. I do not know the gender of the pups yet. However, I would love to send one of our babies to a happy home.

He thinks that socks and feet are toys. Also shirts and pants. What can we do, beside yelling ABAB and replacing with toys. I have 3 toys, should i get more. And when i try to get him of, he gets vicious
He’s too young to be away from his mother and littermates.
Most important… Stop walking, stop everything when he nips, bites or goes for socks, shirts, and pants. Just stand and wait. I know it’s inconvenient, but it’s worth it. Eventually he’ll sit and be good. Once he’s good, don’t just redirect with toys, but PLAY PLAY PLAY!

i want a small dog pretty hyper someone who can go everywhere with me so what do you suggest
If you want a hyper dog, I'd suggest the JRT. Pugs are *awesome* pets, but they aren't hyper at all.
Good luck!

I have a jack russel and have recently aquired a jack russel -pug cross he looks very much like a puggle but has very long legs, hes much bigger than my J.R. but equally as intelligent/stupid/playful/faithful is there such a cross and if so where can i get more info.
i didnt buy it from a breeder but someone i know did and they paid £500. they didnt want it coz it was bigger than they expected so i took it off their hands, their loss my gain he's great and my J.R. loves him, so do my cats!!!
DUDE you OWN that cross silly. There is a cross of every breed out there somewhere… they are mutts go to the shelter, or call a JRT or Pug Rescue and they can show you almost every mix of the breeds. People who only want money and the novelity of breeding dogs would purposly cross these dogs together
Cool I bet hes a super cool dog I dont disagree there but as to if people cross them I am sure they do… just that it isnt worth buying one for that amount of money.

How do I get my 9year old Jack Russell(Max) to get along with our new 2month old Jug(jack/pug)??? Rocky loves max, but max has a love hate relationship with him.. Like Rocky jumps around and barks wanting to play with max , and when he goes near max, max would growl and walk/walk quickly away from him, then rocky would continue going near him and max continues doing the same thing.. Max has already bitten Rocky twice, once the other day then when max heard him crying, max started to whine and wanted to play with rocky, i guess max felt bad, then today max bit him again and he didn’t act like he did last time.. Rocky still loves max, but i think rocky might be getting confused with how max at one point wants to play with rocky then the next day in the morning max doesn’t.. Max was only nice to Rocky twice. The night he came home and last night after biting rocky..
How do I get Max to get along with Rocky?
I give them both equal love and attention, I try to get them both to play with each other but Max still growls at Rocky.. I even try to let them sniff each other to get to know each other..
I think max feels that we're trying to replace him, which we're not, just that my sister wanted her own dog that gets attached to her Since max is attached to me… Max be a grouch, when he's in my room with me, when my sister enters the room he barks at her, and he has bitten her too.. But when I'm not home he's nice to her, but when I'm home he has his little mood swings …
i mean "he CAN BE GROUCHY"..
OK you need 2 people.
1) you have Max, your buddy brings Rocky into the room not close but in the room when Max Looks @ Rocky and no growl give Max a yummy treat fast and tell him he is good!
continue this until you get the positive res ponce always.
2)Bring Rocky a little closer…. if ever you get a bad res ponce no treat and take both out. Try again.
3) Try to touch Rocky feed Max treats happy voice.. so on
make every encounter pleasant and non threatening

So yeah like a said which breed of dog should i get out of the dogs listed above and why? Im looking for a playfull dog thats not to big but still pick from my list please.
THANK YOU
chihuahuas, dauchshounds, some jack russels, are agressive.. esp. chihuahuas. Either a beagle or pug would be the better way to go. they are both playful but affecicnate. I have never alot of these dogs, but I go to dog shows and know personalities of all these dogs because i almost got every one of these at some time. I have only had a pug from this list, which i adore.

do you think it will be mostly chihuahua traits because of the dogs breeds
when someone advertises a Chi-Pug and Chi-JR each parent isnt always 1/2 Chi and 1/2 what ever. The one parent could be 3/4 Chi 1/4 Pug and so on and so forth. So no it isnt really 1/2 chi and a 1/4 this or that. Mainly with any cross breed the litter can be split so widely in colors, personalities, looks, and traits its almost impossible to predict. If dogs only had one baby every time you might have a better idea on the outcome but they have multiple little babies so the combination are infinite. Hopefully the breeder of these dogs did a total temperament and health check before breeding them or your likely to have one crabby, mal-adjust health nightmare dog on your hands. The saying that Mutts and crossbreeds are healthier is not true unless the parents are 100% health tested and temperament tested. You cant breed a Duck and Horse and get a cow right? So it rings true if you breed a ankle biting, sickly, joint affected dog, to a neurotic, digging machine, with a over bite, and bad eyesight. You will get beautiful, wonderful, sweet pups. NOT, you will get mostly little nightmares.

Hello! I have a Jack Russel/Pug mix puppy currently 4 months old. She is constantly biting both objects and me, especially the hands, fingers, and feet. I am aware that she is still just a puppy and will do some silly things. But it has reached the point that I cannot play or interact with her without her bitting. Be it her means of playing too, it is really annoying and I have a fear she will always insist on using her teeth to "play and get attention". I'm going to spare details because I don't know where to start. My question is to you, will it stop, eventually? Is this normal for this breed. Currently whenever she bites by means of hurting or annoying me I just tell her to stop and say no.
There are times however, when I have to hit her hard so she will let go but after that she just charges back at me! Is there an effective way to teach her that bitting is bad?
Yep, I figured I would have to wait. I just hate when the Jack Russel "wakes up" inside of her and she goes nuts!
I have 3 full stock jrts and know exactly what you're talking about! I have scars all over both my forearms from the play biting. It seems to be for attention, although mine get all the attention they could possibly need! Better cared for than most children. I've found that raising my voice in a stern tone works better than anything, because the jrt in them wants to please, and knowing that they've displeased you sometimes in itself is enough! In extreme cases a rolled up newspaper does the trick. Don't know why, but my dogs are scared to death of one. Just had to use it a couple of times, now all I have to do is tell them I'm getting the newspaper and they line up like little soldiers at attention! They love it when they please me!
