Training Jack Russells

What is the difference between a Jack Russell Terrier and a Parson Russell Terrier?

Just wondering what the difference is, I've tried to google this, but I can't seem to find anything. Any help would be great!

They are the same dog, the AKC changed the name but I have a JRT I bought before the change so he's registered as a JRT then after the name change he was shown as a Parson Russel Terrier.

What is the difference between a Jack Russell?

and a Parson Russell?
It has always confused me. Some say just the name has changed while others say they are different dogs/breeds.

The Parson Russel terrier is a taller, more square dog, while the Russell terrier is shorter, and longer than it is tall.

Note that the Parson Russell is an AKC accepted breed, and the Russell terrier is in the FSS of the AKC, on its way to being an excepted breed. AFAIK, the Russell terrier is the same as the Jack Russell terrier, but there is a problem with the AKC using the "Jack Russell" name, due to the parent breed clubs, etc.

From the American Russell Terrier web site:

"Controversy of the name Parson Russell Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, and Russell Terrier
The Russell Terrier originated in England but was never recognized as an official breed in the UK. Australia is designated as country of development for the Russell Terrier. In Australia and Europe with the FCI countries the Russell Terrier is known as the Jack Russell Terrier. Due the conflicting use of the name by the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America "JRTCA" in the US the name can not be utilized for the Russell Terrier in the US. The AKC Russell Terrier is the same as the Australian FCI Jack Russell Terrier. The AKC Russell Terrier is not the same as the Jack Russell Terrier in the US and must be considered a distinctly separate breed due to the development of the "JRTCA" Jack Russell Terrier regardless of height. The "JRTCA" followed England's recognition of the Jack Russell Terrier type not Australia. The Jack Russell Terrier in Australia and the FCI Jack Russell Terrier in Europe is maintained as a distinctly separate breed from the AKC Parson Russell Terrier, the "JRTCA" Jack Russell Terrier in the US and the Jack Russell Terrier in England. (Also see: Education)."

Add: they started out as the same breed, but different parent breed clubs in different countries started allowing the registration/breeding of dogs outside of the breed standard, and/or changed the breed standard to include these dogs. That's why the "traditional" type is the square, longer-legged terrier (the "Parson" type), as this is body shape conforms to the standard of the British breed club. The shorter body type was developed, and since they do not conform to the standard, my guess is that the breeders of those dogs formed their own breed club, called the Jack Russell terrier in the US. So basically, they are all the same dog, with different size ranges called different "breeds", and the different names are more due to politics of the kennel clubs and parent breed clubs than any true distinction between the types. That's my theory, anyway ;-)

jack russell terrier and parson russell terrier.is it the same dog but with different name?

is jack russell and parson russell the same dog breed??? or is there something different between them ???

i ve seen a lot of jack russells and ive seen 2 different coats smooth and wire/broken coat

im looking into getting a new dog i have a 4 year old clumber and 16 month old irish setter and im looking for a dog that will enjoy long walks lots of time playing in the garden

i am considering buying another clumber or setter but im also looking into russell terrier

In the US the Parson Russell Terrier is the name of the breed and the Jack Russell Terrier is just a type of Parson Russell Terrier. In other countries they are considered different breeds. In the US, Parson Russells conform to the breed standard. Jack Russells are just Parson Russells with shorter legs. Parsons can come in smooth or wire coats. Since Jacks are just a type of short Parsons they come in the same coat types as well.

I think in some countries like Australia, the Jack Russell is recognized as its own separate breed.

My Springers' best bud is a Jack Russell. Parson Russell terriers are a very intelligent and energetic breed. I think it would get on well with your dogs.

I've noticed that you've been searching for a companion for your two dogs for a while. Have you finally settled with this breed?

Jack and L. Ron……?

Does anybody think Jack Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard really DID open something up in the desert with the Babylon working?
Yeah I think L. Ron was a shyster too, I just wanna know what you folks think.

Read this chapter from his biography, it covers Hubbard's time with Parsons watching him masterbate and stuff, sex magick they called it apparantly:
http://www.clambake.org/archive/books/bfm/bfm07.htm

I obviously don't believe they created a demi-god and brought her here to earth. I think someone might have noticed! Nor do I believe anything else that egomanic, crazy, lying, scumbag, conman known as Hubbard said.

i hav a very badly behaved parsons jack russell terrier! only 9 months old!!?

He barks all the time and can be aggresive to people he doesnt know, particularly men, i hav read a few times it helps to have a playmate for them, is this true? i dont want to make him any worse or end up with two badly behaved dogs!! He was well socialised when we first got him, attened puppy classes and we recently had a behaviorist out to see him! Can anyone help me???

Yes, i'm afraid your dog has become a "teenager"! Most dogs go through a difficult stage when they reach 8-10 months old. They suddenly seem to turn into yobs! I think if the behaviourist you saw is worth his/her salt they should have told you that this may happen and how to deal with it. Definately get him castrated if he's not already done. It's not a quick fix and does take a little time to take effect but he will be more manageable if he is neutered.
Also, get him to some good dog training classes, as someone else suggested. Look on the apdt website to find classes near you.
In the meantime, try not to get too cross with him over his behaviour, i know it's hard, but this will only make things worse. Stay calm and in control, and be consistant. If you don't want him on the furniture, stick to that, don't ever give in or you'll be sending him mixed signals. He needs to know the rules and boundries, now more than ever!
Good luck :)

Are Jack Russell Terriers AKC recognized?

Are they the same as a Parson Russell Terrier, and it is just an interchangable name?
Is there is a difference between a “Jack Russell Terrier” and a “Parson Russell Terrier”?

The two are in fact the same breed. The only difference is the name and that is the only reason why their are now two distinct breed clubs.
The man responsible for this breed was the Reverend (Parson) John Russell.
The common short or nick name for John is “Jack” which is where the term Jack Russell Terrier came from. The original Parson John Russell Terrier stood between 10 and 15 inches. Came in 3 separate coats from smooth, wirehaired and coarse. These days the Parson has a preferred height limit of 14″ for males 13″ for females.
Far too many people are quick to claim there are two breeds but there is nothing outside of the name and the lawsuit regarding the name as the only reason for the breed to be split into 2 separate breeds when in fact they are the same breed.
Simply put, call it what you want but the actual breed name is Parson “John” Russell Terrier but referring to it as a JRT or Jack Russell Terrier is acceptable and in no way diminishes the breed.
AKC no longer recognizes the JRT Jack Russell Terrier but does recognize the Parson. For obvious reasons, such as giving credit to the man who actually created the breed such as referring to the Doberman Pinscher by the name of its creator.
The complaints all come from those who insist theirs is the real thing and not wanting to acknowledge that the other is also the real thing.
Fact is the groups need to get their acts together and give proper credit where it is due.

Occultists: How do you feel about Jack Parsons?

Why did Babalon fail? Or did it?
Was it L. Ron Hubbard?
If Parsons could evoke a Typhoon, then he should have been able to complete Babalon.

If he could really evoke a Typhoon, I wouldn't want to be around when received his "Three fold" reward/punishment!!!!!

Is she a Jack Russell or a Parson Russell?

I bought my puppy without papers or anything and the pet store (shame shame I know I should have gone through a breeder but she's an awesome dog nontheless) sold her to me as a Jack Russell but she looks just like a Parson Russell too…..are there any distinguishing features between the two?

As far as the AKC goes, the breed has always been the Parson Russell Terrier. Fans of the parson russell terrier started the Parson Jack Russell Terrier club in 1914. The name Jack Russell was later thrown around and used to describe any mixed terrier, some of which bore little resemblence to the Parson Jack Russell Terrier.

Even though they are most commonly known as Jack Russell Terriers today, few people realize that their true name is Parson Russell Terrier, and the only name used by AKC. They are also call Parson Jack Russell Terriers

Is is arguable, though. Some clame they are different breeds, the only real difference being height. Parson's are 12-14", jack russells being 10-12", while others claim they are the same breed

It's the same battle as that between the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier

All female dogs dogs are fertile for life, unless they have been spayed.
