Training Jack Russells

Does anyone have a Jack Russell Dachshund cross?

I have bought a puppy. We know its mum was a jack russell but not sure what his father was. The vet thinks he is a Jack Russell Dachshund cross but i have never seen one before. Does anyone have one and if so do you have any pics so i can compare?

Here is Sumo (he is 3 months old) what do you think he is:

We have just taken in a two year old female resuce jack russell to live with our terrier cross?

Any tips for a smooth transition

Introduce them to each other away from the house so they can get to know and like each other. Sometimes bringing a dog into a house can make the other way over-protective of their place.

Once together make sure you give them both the same amount of love and attention so they don't get jealous of each other

How can I stop my female pups fighting? I have a 14wk Patterdale cross Jack Russell & a 12wk Jack Russell?

Both pups get on very well with sharing food & water & sleeping togther during the day. The problem is that they are constantly fighting, it starts off as playing but turns nasty, I have tried breaking them up but this makes them nastier towards eachother. I have started to shout 'ENOUGH!' when it goes from playing to fighting, they will both stop, but as soon as I have turned my back they are back to fighting again. I am concerned as it seems that the younger and smaller Jack Russell always ends up crying, but will not back down, the Patterdale cross is stronger than her & will not back down either. If the Jack Russell does try to walk away, the Patterdale cross won't leave her alone. For fear that she may get hurt I put the Jack Russell to sleep in a cage at night which is in the same room as the Patterdale Cross. It is clear that the Patterdale Cross is the dominant one. When they fight they both go for the throat, but the Patterdale grabs the Jack by the throat & shakes her, help?
Thanks for all of your help.

I do know that terrirors do not get on well with same sex, however this happened, as I was living with the Patterdale cross, but because of bad circumstances had to move home. I only had the Patterdale for a week before this happened and the Jrt was only living in this home for 3 days before I moved in with the Patterdale. The pups have been together only four weeks but the fighting has got less frequent than it was. The probem seems to be that they start off play fighting but the Patterdale does not get the hint to back off when the Jrt has had enough, she still seems to be playing when the Jrt is actually showing her teeth & growling, the Patterdale shows none of the anger signs until she is attacked badly by the Jrt. How can I show my Patterdale that when the Jrt has had enough, she has to back off?
The fighting between them has not yet caused any of them to be physically hurt, could I be mistaking this for play fighting?

Oh boy, you got 2 female terriers. Did no one warn you about this? It is very well documented that terriers can have same sex aggression issues.
You have a few choices. You can try to let them figure out the pecking order themselves as long as it does not get too vicious and no one needs stitches. The grab the neck and head shaking thing is instinct for a jack, you know what they are bred to do, yes?
Or you can try to be the alpha and not allow it to happen by being bigger and louder than they are. (use the pennies in the can thing, NOT yelling at them). It might work for a while, but usually around 6 months it will start up again as they reach adolescence. Spaying may help the situation a bit.
If the fighting continues you are going to have to either zone your home and keep them apart or re-home one.
You are correct in thinking this could be a big problem in the future.
Ok, so you don't own the jack, just the jackx patterdale? Got it. I wish I could see what was happening… it is hard to call what to do here without seeing. Sometimes it is good to just let them work it out. They are both at that age when they are learning the rules of engagement and working out pecking order. If you get tired of it, it is ok to put one or both of them in their crates. You can also try snapping a lead on them and going for a walk to get some of that puppy energy out and re-direct their focus.
Just training, training, training at this point, and try to get yourself back into a position that you can move out should this situation continue to escalate. Sorry, not a lot of help, but terriers are what they are, lol! Gotta love them!

will my 2 year old jack russell girl, get on with 9 week old husky cross jack russell girl puppy?

i have a 2 year old jack russell girl, and in my local pet shop there is a 9 week old husky cross jack russell girl puppy, i want her as she is gorgeous!
would the two get on together, the pet shop owner has given up tips on how to introduce them, but the last time i bought a girl puppy (cocker spaniel) she really didn't like her and tried to attack her! i'm wondering if they will get on as down the road a friend of mine owns a jack russell and my dog just loves her, so the fact the husky is crossed with a jack might there be a chance?
answer as soon as you can please! x
thank you everyone who answers x
sensible answers only thank you, as i wouldn't want the puppy getting hurt x

They may or may not get along, these things are hard to predict and usually go on a dog by dog individual basis.

I urge you not to purchase a puppy from a pet shop though. All pet shop puppies come from puppy mills, which cruelly treat their animals, and by buying pet shop puppies, people are only supporting the puppy mills and encouraging them to continue abusing animals.

iam wanting to get a dog for my children the dog im looking at is a jack russell cross between a patherdale it

Jack russells and smaller terrier dogs are usually very energetic, very hyper active, and can be harder to house break than some other breeds.

You need to talk to a rescue organization for the breed you are interested in and see if they have a dog whose temperment matches with your life style.

I would suggest taking one of the online breed recommender testes online and see what type of dog would best suit you. You need to make a decision based on space available, grooming time, exercise time, training requirements, feed and vet costs.

Here is one that you can do:
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm

If you do choose to get a dog, please adopt! You will be saving the lives of 2 dogs, the one you adopt and the one that takes his place in rescue. Do a search on http://www.petfinder.com for dogs available in your area.

By the way, please take into account:
1. The ages of your children
2. The temperment of your children
3. The amount of time it takes to teach the child and do how to interact with each other.

Good luck!

what does a jack russell cross japanese spitz look like?

The problem with crossbreeds is you never know what they are going to look like. They could look like a jack russell or a japanese spitz or could be one of a million combinations in between.

Can a wolf be cross-bred with a Jack Russell Terrier?

I would love to see a hybrid-dog like this if it is possible?

Can? Yes - except the wolf would probably eat the Russel first.

I enjoy the Jack Reacher series and the Alex Cross series. What are some novels like these i might enjoy?

Other thrillers/murder mystery's?

Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware series (Delaware is a child psychologist called in on murder cases)

John Sandford's Lucas Davenport series (The Prey books– Night Prey, Silent Prey, etc.)

Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series (Lincoln is a quadraplegic detective who was injured in the line of duty; others do the onsite sleuthing)

There are many others, but these are the first ones that came to mind.
