I really think that's a "gay" (not homosexual, but lame) name for a dog. What is the real name of that dog?
Wow. So not only is the name lame, but so is it's history. Bred by a fox hunter? Fox hunters have got to be the scum of Britain. How cowardly can you get? Some fox hunter with his bitches.
Jack Russell Terrier is the real name os the breed.
The Jack Russell Terrier takes it name from the Reverend John Russell who bred one of the finest strains of terriers for working fox in Devonshire, England in the mid-to-late 1800's. Rev. Russell (1795-1883), apart from his church activities, had a passion for fox hunting and the breeding of fox hunting dogs; he is also said to be a rather flamboyant character, probably accounting for his strain of terrier's notability and the name of our terrier today. His first terrier, the immortal TRUMP, is said to be the foundation of John Russell's strain of working terriers.

I have a jack Russel terrier and he used to have a pink belly all over, and then a few brown spots started appearing on the belly, and when he was neutered they went away, now he just started getting those spots again? He seems healthy and very active…he got the spots they disappeared and they're back? what is this?
Sometimes its just markings on their skin, like freckles or birthmarks on humans. My dog has those marks. But you said they went away and then came back… I didn't know that could happen. It could be a skin infection, but I'm no vet.

Can you tell me where they would be in that ranking?
Stanley Coren's list was not exhaustive and did not include all breeds, especially rare breeds like a Brazilian terrier. JRTs are common, not sure why they weren't included. But they aren't ranked. Most of the terriers were lumped sort of mid-group - I'd assume these terriers would be the same. Besides, this list wasn't to be taken as gospel, only as a general guide of working intelligence and it has been criticized heavily, especially by people who own breeds that ranked low on the list.

well see i have been raising these dogs for years so this is a piece of cake, but it all started when my first Jack Russel had puppies and we kept one and then the same dog had two other litters and we kept one from each litter that makes four. then the dog from the first litter just recently had puppies we were not going to keep one but no one wanted her so we decided to keep her. so that makes five. It is really weird why no one wanted her she is such a cute dog now i am glad we got to keep her. I know you might say they have alot of energy but my dogs are very calm the only thing that gets them going crazy is a squirrel or some other rodent and cats. but the best thing aout them is they are so loveable and sweet
It would only be "a lot" if the owner is struggling to make ends meet with vet bills, dog food, etc, and doesn't have time to give each of them the attention and socialization that they need.
I have seven big dogs, and I would get another one if I had more money, room, and time for another. :0)
Five small dogs seems so little to me.

what would you do?
would you take one dog before the others?
Unless you are superhuman, you can only bathe one dog at a time…so…
you do not mention what kind of a spaniel…there are many types…cockers, springers, brittanies, etc….
Brush the all out first….then bath in order of how fast they will dry…
So..Spaniel, then probably beagle, then JR …..
The longer the coat, the longer it takes to dry…therefore longest coated dog first….
Also…they have to be brushed FIRST because idf there are any matts they will just tighten as the dog dries.
Good luck

we just brought home a puppy and we are concerned that our jack russel adult dog will not accept it what can we do?
you need to introduce them ad see how he reacts
keep in mind that it was your jask russels home first-
does your jack russel get along with others at the dog park?
might not be a problem at all if he does and has been socialized
if they have trouble getting along just take it slow
make sure you give attention to the jack russel , not just the puppy

How old is he? He's probably not very well socialized.
And to Marti…
ANY breed can get along with other dogs.. if they're well socialized as a puppy. I have an English Bull Terrier. This breed is known to be aggressive towards small animals..
guess what, I have two cats and a rat. My bully has NEVER shown aggression towards my other babies, nor any people.

I am driving home to Wisconsin at Christmas and the trip is about 17 hours. Way too long for me and my two dogs to pull off in one day. Because of the dogs I’d like to avoid imposing on someone who lives in between. I’ve checked several hotel chains that allow pets but all that I have found have a one dog limit.
We travel all the time with our Greyhounds - We have stayed at Holiday Inns, La Quinta Inns and Red Roof Inns with no problems & we have two large Greyhounds.
AAA has out a pet travel guide that will tell you pet-friendly hotels. It is always best to call first and check if a hotel will accept pets.
Some do have a “pet fee” you have to pay in addition to your regular nightly room fee.
