Training Jack Russells

Any Landlords out there willing to put there name on a list willing to accept pets?

There is a shortage of Pet Friendly Landlords.
Doing this for a friend who has been looking for ages for another place to rent, but many landlords will not take his 2 Jack Russells.

Most landlords will say no pets. This doesnt mean you cant move in with your pet, the landlord no longer has the right to evict you for keeping a pet as this is in breach of new European human rights laws. At worst all they can do is make you repay costs for any damage the pet causes at the end of the tenancy. I live in a rental with my dog and the landlord has accepted there is nothing the can do. What is the difference between a Jack Russell Terrier and a Parson Russell Terrier?

Just wondering what the difference is, I've tried to google this, but I can't seem to find anything. Any help would be great!

They are the same dog, the AKC changed the name but I have a JRT I bought before the change so he's registered as a JRT then after the name change he was shown as a Parson Russel Terrier.

Would you people please stop saying there are no such things as Mini Jack dogs?

Ok. I want to set the record straight. People, including me, are practically getting attacked for mentioning this breed. I am aware that there is only one size Jack Russell. The "mini" in Mini-Jack stands for Miniature Pinscher which is crossed with a Jack Russell Terrior, thus the name "Mini Jack", also called "Minnie Jack." They are recognized by American Canine Hybrid Club as a Minnie Jack and by the
Designer Dogs Kennel Club as a Mini Jack. Check out this website: www.dogbreedinfo.com/minniejack.htm. I have one and they are a wonder dog. Questions/comments?
Geez, guys, I see I hit a nerve with some of you AKC snobs. Just because a dog isn't a pure breed doesn't make it less than quality in my eyes. I didn't get scammed by anybody and I take offense to the insinuation that I'm not a responsible dog owner just because I don't do dog shows and belong to these bogus clubs. I happen to just love my dog for who she is–a member of our family and don't care if you label her as a "mutt". She thinks she's special because we tell her so, not because she has credentials. My purpose of this was to set the record straight to the people that think we are saying our Mini Jack is a "miniature".
Thanks to those of you who wrote to kindly educate me and not to insult.
FYI: I didn't get my dog from a breeder. I got her from a loving home where their dogs were very loved. I don't believe in puppy mills either. I believe all dogs deserve a good life whether they are a "pure breed" or a so-called mutt. I think we can all agree on that.

i say forget what other people are saying because everyone has an opinion and who is to say one is right or wrong, every one can argue its a mutt, everyone else can argue about how the kennel clubs with so called PURE bred dogs are killing them by inbreeding and that studies show that over the years that the so called pure dogs have actually started declining in health and body features because of such things, someone can argue that without clubs breeds would be destroyed by mixing someone can argue that naturalization through best to best breeding is the true way to go, we can all argue a lot but opinions are just what someone has made up in their mind to be the right way not necessarily the truth…let it go in one ear and out the other

people on here told me there was no irish staffordshier bull terrier but they dont know that thats an English bullterrier with a staffordshire BT and they are in stafordshire England and Ireland

My dog's DNA test came back. How can he possibly be an Akita/Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix? Akita's are huge!?

Those Mexicans will jump anything! I once saw a stray pup that turned out to be part Chihuahua and part black Lab! The Akita was probably the mother in your case.

would a jack russell terrier be a good dog for a first time owner?

me and my family would love a jack russell terrier, and we would give the dog lots of attention and exercise. But from monday - thursday it will be alone for 5 hours, would this be okay?

It is not a breed I would recommend for a first time dog owner, however, if you adopted an older dog 2-5 years of age, you're likely to fare better.

A dog that age is out of puppy crazies (most terriers are returned or sheltered at 6 months to a year of age due to their insane antics and independent personalities), and is slightly calmer.

The Jack requires a LOT of mental stimulation, or he will become destructive. Due to their breed job of going to ground (going under earth for game), they tend to be diggers, and are very prey driven, so they need to be supervised with any small pets you may have.

Being gone for hours isn't a big deal, as long as you get the dog a kennel to relax in, and be sure to exercise (physically and mentally) adequately for the dog.

I again highly suggest you go to a rescue and get an older dog to start with, so you can have a good experience, and get a feel for them. If you want a puppy, talk to REPUTABLE breeders, and do your research. Look up what they have for health issues, their energy needs, etc.

It is always important to research before choosing a breed.

I need information on Jack Russell Terriers?

I am considering adopting a jack russell terrier puppy, and I was wondering if any owners could give me advice? Is there anything important I should know? I'm just out of college, living in an apartment with my boyfriend, and we work most of the day. However, I do love animals, and I have owned dogs before; I understand the amount of attention they need.

Would this be the best decision for me?

The Jack Russell Terrier isn't for you.

Being that you live in an apartment and are gone most of the day.

Jacks are very high energy and need lots of exercise, walks, playtime and attention.

Also are you able to put the dog in training classes….I would recommend one if you get a jack.

I have a beautiful little Jack Russell mix and she is pretty mellow for the most part (we are lucky)

But if she doesn't get the proper exercise she gets destructive (We were couped up all weekend and today she dug a hole in my couch) and she runs zoomies (which results in things getting knocked over)

It helps that I am with her almost all day but still if you aren't going to be home you don't need such an active breed.

My mix is not half as active as the typical Jack Russell Terrier (some times they are referred to as Jack Russell Terroists)

I love my dog but I will never own a purebred Jack Russell Terrier

I love my dog and she is perfect for us but it helps that she is mellow….most jacks aren't.

I would suggest looking into dogs with less energy.

Where can I find a Boston Terrier breeder in Michigan?

I am interested in getting a male boston terrier pup in about a month. I am willing to put down a deposit now.

Save yourself at least 1400 dollars. If you really want a good dog, try going to an animal rescue shelter and see what they have. You can find all kinds of loyal, loving, cuddly and SMART, trainable dogs there…and for a lot less money. When you pay exorbitant prices for questionably bred "purebred"? dogs, you cheat yourself, and add to the pet overpopulation problem, and generally end up paying less than 100.00 for the dog at a shelter. Many shelters have purebred or near purebred, and hybrid dogs. I'm sure you would be able to find one to your liking!

My Parson Russell Terrier puppy is too skinny. Any suggestions?

He is 16 weeks old. Went to the vet and she said he is too skinny and should eat more. I feed him good food (Wellness Puppy Formula) 4 times a day, so it is not the food that is the problem. The problem is that he is more interested in playing than eating. Any suggestions as to what I can do?

Feed him twice a day instead of four times. Buy a good, high quality puppy food made for small and medium sized puppies. Feed him the amount recommended on the side of the bag (be sure to measure it-not just guess) for his age and weight. If he doesn't finish it within 15 minutes, pick it up and wait until the next meal. It may seem to be the opposite of what you should do, but it will make him actually hungry at mealtimes and he will eat all of his food at once. As weird as it sounds, if you feed more than the recommended amount then your pup may have diarrhea which will obviously cause him to lose weight instead of gaining.

What do you recomentd as alternative to a gentle leader?

My Springer Spaniel has a very sensitive snout and the gentle lead bothers his skin. However, Because of his side I do need a alternative that will still allow me to have lots of control.

Two collars and leashes — a regular neck collar and leash, and the Gentle Leader with the second leash. That way most of the time you can lead by the neck collar but you can still control the head when you really need to. At the same time, work on training him to walk properly on a leash so that you can eventually do away with the head collar.

I tried an Easy Walk Harness and personally I did not care for it. My dog was a stubborn puller, and the Easy Walk Harness only made him walk like a crab.
