Training Jack Russells

Are Yorkies Hyper like jack russells?

I am considering adopting a small breed dog and still looking for a calm breed. I adore Yorkshire Terriers but wondering if they are hyper like my friend's Jack Russell. Please let me know of small breeds that are lovable?

My niece has a yorkie who is VERY hyper - the dog drives everyone crazy. Even a professional dog trainer was unable to help. And the Yorkies who come into the clinic where I work are hyper also. If you want a small breed that is low energy, try a Pekingese!

Jack Russel Puppy…..PLEASE HELP!?

I WANT A JACK RUSSEL SOOOO BAD BUT THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE! DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A BREEDER OR A PUPPY SHELTER IN THE NYC AREA (THE BRONX IF POSSIBLE) THAT MIGHT HAVE THEM???
ALL IDEAS AND PHONE NUMBERS WILL BE GREAT! THANXS TO ALL!

They are expensive, and while you may want one, they really don't make the best apartment dogs.

They need to be exercised daily for nearly 45-60 minutes, or more, rigorously.

Stopping Jack Russells from going down holes?

A friend of mine has two JRs, one 2 years and the other 5 months. Her OH took them out today and the little one decided to disappear down a couple of rabbit holes. Fortunately, the puppy came back out after a short while, but my friend is very worried that this will happen again.

Obviously, its terrier instinct to do this, but is there anything she can do to deter it as she'd rather not just keep her lead up all the time.

I feel sad for dogs that are bought and then are not allowed to do what comes naturally, these 2 obviously have a high prey/working drive so rather than try and stop them or keeping the dogs on a lead their whole lives why doesn't she encourage them to work and help the farmer keep the rabbit population down (with permission from farmer of course)

Jack Russel puppy eats too fast?

I have a 6 month old Jack Russell Terrier puppy. Ever since we got him, whenever I feed him, he eats like he's starving to death. No matter how much I feed him, he acts like he's never eaten before in his life. He's not overweight by any means, actually he seems a little too skinny to me. I know he does not have worms or anything like that. He's even choked a couple times before. How do I get him to slow down?

PUT BIG ROCKS IN HIS BOWL SO HE HAS TO PICK THE FOOD OUT SLOWLY!!

I want to get my 6m old Jack Russells tail docked to avoid possible problems later on. Can i?

Will there be any problems during or after the surgery? I also think she looks funny with her long tail.

You should be able to but check with your vet to be sure. It's not a complicated procedure but their are risks with any surgery. Docking is usually done when the dog is very young and becomes more problematic when they are older.Good luck

Dog lovers - what is concensus of opinion on Jack Russels, for a4 year old?

I have two parts to my answer.
I was given a Jack Russell when I was six and he was lovely. we had him from a farm and we picked him from a litter of pups. My father knew the farmer and knew of the reputation of the dog's mother and father. Both were good dogs. This said however he could be nasty when antagonised (usually by my brother) he however never snapped at me until he was old and I went to university. He then snapped at me when I came home for the holidays. We think it was his way of punishing me as he was fine when I moved back home again.

On the other hand my brother has a jack russell of his own now and I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her. However she is a rescue dog so therefore her background is unknown.

My advice therefore is make sure you know everything there is to know about the dog before you commit to it.

new puppy jack russel?

my son got a little jack russel puppy for his birthday and he wont go to the bathroom outside he will wait until he gets back in the house , a friend of mine said to try puppy pads
is that a good idea ?

Take the dog outside every hour on the hour to the spot you want him to go. When he does go in that spot, reward him PROFUSELY both physically and verbally. Puppy pads are okay, but it's a pain - you'll have to teach him to go outside eventually anyways. Personally I think they just confuse the dog - is it okay to go inside or not? The main thing is to keep bringing him outside whether you think he needs to go or not until it's ingrained in his head that's what he's supposed to do.

My two jack russells fight what should i do?

Ok i have two jack russells 1 is 8 years old and her name is bindy she is abit aggressive because she got badley hurt when she had to have major surgery so she is affraid of strangers and other dogs she isnt used to. anyway then i have another dog hes name is milo he is 2 and a half years old and they get along pretty well all day untill after dinner lately bindy steals milos dinner and they have a fight and we have to go sort it out the after dinner bindy usually goes to bed and milo just sits near the back door watching us but if one of us goes outside and milo comes up for a pat then bindy comes racing out of her kenal and attacks milo (thats my first problem) then when we go inside milo wont go to bed because bindy is in bed and their kennals are next to each other if milo goes to bed then bindy attacks him and so on so i want to know what to do please dont say get rid of one of them cause that aint gonna happen cause i love them both and im not getting rid of one of them
well the dogs are always outside and then dont have cages (i dont even no wat they are) there beds are just plastic kennals. when bindy attacks milo we tell her off and scolled her and she rolls on her back like dogs do when ur domonate ova them but then she goes and does it every night. Oh and they are fed about 2 meters away from each other and there is no way to feed them seperatley cause they cant come in the house cause my mum has alergies

you have to give disapline when you see the other dog running over to steal food. that means youll have to watch them an mean business when you do it, same thing when the other dog gets jelous when you pet the other dog you have to let them know its not ok. i would put both dogs on the bed an make them lay there an if one starts acting up i would disapline it. i would get creative an have like 2 pot lids an bang them together when one starts to get nasty LOL an i bet it wouldnt do it again
