Training Jack Russells

are there any parson terrier pups(tall jack russell)for sale in the north wales area please?

If you type in www.petfinder.com you can find any type of dog in your area. Its an adoption site that links you to shelters all over the place.
Adoption is the best option to me and most of the times the dog is purebred but couldnt be taken care of.
So try it out.
I promise it works.

Should Puppy (in training) Wear Gentle Leader All the Time?

I just bought a Gentle Leader face-collar for my 5 month old American Bulldog. I know it’s not a muzzle, but he still wines and rubs his face on the ground to remove it.

I don’t like the idea of forcing him to wear something that restrictive/uncomfortable, so will this training collar still work if I only put it on him for walks?

No, he doesn’t need to wear it all the time, just when you are in training with him.

Are there any dogs more inventive than the Jack Russel Terrier?

My friend has one named Bhodi and he's unfencable. So far we've watched him…

A) Tunnel his way out

B) open the latch by jumping up and hitting it with his nose

C) propping his back legs in the chain links and climbing up a tree with his front paws. He climbs up the bark a few inches then steps up his back legs one at a time until he reaches the top… then he jumps off the fence onto the side of the tree, doublesback midair and kicks off the tree to flip back over the fence.

Mine writes mystery novels.

about 3 weeks ago my jack russels were busy in the yard and now she has developing nipples what do i do now?

i need to know how long she is pregnant for and what else i should do. she is 12months old and he is 2 years old but they are both hyper active will they be good parents? they dont bite or anything they just destroy the yard

at 12 months she is really too young to be a mother, reputable breeders don’t breed the girls that young, as they are still physically maturing. Why don’t you take her to the vet and get it confirmed, then you can discuss with him whether she can physically handle the pregnancy. Remember, that just because 13 year old girls can get pregnant, that doesn’t mean they should, dogs are the same.

How much should I feed my 7 week old Jack Russel puppy?

The vet said 1/4 cup 3 times a day, but he always seems hungry, and it doesn't seem like it fills him up.

We feed him beneful, which I know is not a good dog food. It's what the breeder was feeding him, I'll switch his food within the next month.

That should be about the right amount of food for him, some dogs will eat anything you put down, even if they aren't truly hungry at the time. If you think he truly is still hungry, you could increase to 1/3 of a cup feedings and see if he acts any differently.

I'm glad you've decided to switch dog foods. It will lead to a longer, healthier life for your puppy. Here is my advice on choosing a dog food:

Read the ingredients on the food you buy. Go with a high quality dog food. (Or in your case, the puppy food variety of the brand you choose to go with.) A grain should not be in the first couple ingredients ingredient (corn and such are mainly fillers, dogs don't digest it well). Avoid foods that have a lot of "by products" listed.

Here is an article about byproducts:

And an article on what ingredients to avoid:

Some GOOD foods are :
* Merrick - http://www.merrickpetcare.com/
* Solid Gold - http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/
* Canidae - http://www.canidae.com/
* Timberwolf - http://timberwolforganics.com/
* Orijen - http://www.championpetfoods.com/orijen/orijen/
* Wellness - http://www.omhpet.com/wellness/
* Chicken Soup brand - http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/
* Innova - http://www.naturapet.com/brands/innova.asp
* Innova EVO - http://www.naturapet.com/brands/evo.asp

Or check this website for good foods: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/
(I recommend only feeding foods rated 4, 5, or 6 stars. Anything 3 stars or less, I would stay away from.)

Stay away from grocery stores brands. They are low-quality foods chalk full of fillers, preservatives, dyes, etc.. (Grocery store foods are those like Beneful, Old Roy, Alpo, etc.)

Beware "premium" foods. "Premium" does not mean good nutritionally, and is not a nutritionally high quality food. It has the same types of ingredients as grocery store foods, just a bit better quality of those not-so-good ingredients. (Premium foods are those like Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, etc..)

Another thing to be wary of: A lot of vets will recommend what they sell in their office. They get profit from the brands they keep on their shelves, that's why they push it. Truth is, vet schools don't focus a lot on nutrition. It's not saying that a vet is a bad vet because he recommends those foods, a lot of vets just are told "this is good food", so they pass the message along without proper nutrition knowledge. Also, some dog food brands (like Hills) support vet schools, so vets have heard of it from the time they start college, which makes them think it's good as well.

When switching foods, do it gradually. I do this over about a two week timespan:
25% food A, 75% food B
50% food A, 50% food B
75% food A, 25% food B
100% food A

Do Jack Russells get on with Cats?

We've been offered a 6 month old Jack Russell puppy (female). Will she clash with our papmpered 6 month old kitten? I read somewhere on the internet today that Jack Russells do not mix well with other pets and small children… If we decide to have kids over the next year or so, will there be a threat that they will be eaten by the dog?

It really depends on the individual animal. In my experience cats normally rule the roost, (so to speak) and many eye injuries result to little dogs as a result of a cat lashing out at them. But on the other hand, you did say they are both 6 months old, so constant supervision whilst they are introduced to each other and you'll probably find they will both grow up to be the best of buddies. All the best :)

Any chance you know what mix of jack russell my dog is?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/execrable/magibon.jpg

When we bought her we were told she’s a full bred long haired jack russell terrier but we’re pretty convinced she’s got some type of mix in her. Most long haired jacks we’ve seen don’t have hair as excessive as hers. Any ideas?

Is she an actual Jack Russell Terrier? Or an English Jack Russell Terrier? (often called Shorties or puddin’s.)

Actually, a lot of long haired(known as roughs) Jrts can have hair that long. It normally happens if they aren’t groomed.

However, the majority of Jrts I see with hair that long are English Jack Russell Terriers (puddin; shorties)

She could be a full blood Jrt.

i have 9 jack russell pups?

i have 9 jack russell puppys mum is having problems feeding them all at the same time there all seem very huggry is it ok to pix some puppy milk up that i got from the vet WELPI AND ADD A LITTEL BREAD it my 1st time the pups are nealy 4 wks old mum is still feeding them i just want to give them a bit help thank you

I had a litter of 7 once and I started them earlier than 4 weeks to feed. I used the Esbalac and mixed it with Baby Rice Cereal at first. Used a 9 x13 cake pan to mix the food in and set the babies right in it a few at a time. They were curious enough to start lapping it up and as an added bonus - when mom would clean them up - she got extra nutrition too. Which is something else you need to be worried about. Add some ground beef, liver in small amounts as well as eggs and yougurt.

When they were a little older, I soaked the puppy dog food in the mixture of Esbilac and baby rices cereal - they were fine. Matter of fact one of those little babies just turned 15 in December!

jack russell any tips on how to keep it small?

do anyone know of any tips on how to keep a jack russell pup small its a bitch and i want to keep her for breeding so id like her to grow as little as possibible

Nothing you can do. Her size is predetermined by her genetic make up. What you should be doing is feeding her high quality dog food (without sugars, dyes, corn or wheat) and making sure she gets plenty of exercise. If you insist on adding to the pet over population, your focus should be on well bred, healthy animals and you start with how you treat the mother.
